When you speak of civilization, African civilization has always been a fascinating one, it played a huge roll in setting the pace. So many empires sprang up in Africa with their unique inventions, and strategy which a had a huge impact on civilization. The oldest university located in Morocco, Egyptian civilization, D’mt and Axum kingdoms of Ethiopia, Ghanaian empire, Mali empire all had a remarkable way of life, which some of it were adopted by westerners that sojourned in Africa. There were unique trade strategy and organised military force which sustained the people. There will carefully thought policies that guided commerce at that time. Of all the civilizations that Of Egypt and interestingly the first and oldest university in the world located in Morocco is the most striking of them all.
In this article we will be looking at the oldest university and Egyptian civilization.

University of Karueein
University of Karueein is the oldest existing and continually operating educational institution in the world located in Fez, Morocco. It was founded by Fatima Al-fihri  in 859 AD. She established the university with the inheritance she got from her father, Mohammed Al-fihri  who was a wealthy merchant.
The university gained patronage of wealthy and politically powerful sultans. The university library had large selection of manuscripts. Among the subjects taught, alongside the Qur ‘an and Fiqh  (Islamic jurisprudence) are grammar, rhetoric,  logic, medicine, mathematics, astronomy.

Egyptian civilization
Civilization wouldn't be complete without mentioning the Egyptian civilization. The success of ancient Egyptian civilization is partly as a result of their ability to adapt to the condition of the Nile river valley for Agriculture. In this era Egyptian civilisation witnessed quarrying, Surveying,  and construction techniques that supported the building of monumental pyramids, temples and obelisks. They had a unique system of mathematics,  a practical and effective system of medicine, irrigation systems and Agricultural production techniques, the first Known planked boat, glass technology and various forms of literature. It’s art and architecture were widely copied.

With all of these early achievements, the question begs, why have Africa become the exact opposite of what it used to be, a continent that pioneered some aspect of civilization. Carefully examining Africa, it has a great human capital and natural resources.
Sadly, the immense natural resources became our problem and human capital poorly developed. We keep loosing great minds to the west while we remain underdeveloped. A continent marred by self gratification,  mismanagement and bad leadership.

In my opinion, we can still take our rightful place in the league of continents, with adequate planning and unflinching commitment to the cause.
