THE TRINITY IN ACTION
BIBLE TEXT: 1 JOHN 5:6-8

"For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one" (1 John 5:7).

The Trinity refers to the three persons of the Godhead; God who is the Father, His Son, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit. This does not mean that there are three Gods. They are three separate and distinct personalities perfectly united in one.

The unity and the work of the Trinity are clearly seen in the Bible, in the creation of the earth, divine conception and birth of Jesus, and all through His ministry. Again, the work of our redemption accomplished by Jesus Christ was a joint venture with God the Father and the Holy Ghost.

When Jesus Christ was about to begin His earthly ministry, He went to John the Baptist to be baptized, in fulfilment of the scriptures. At the baptism scene, the Holy Ghost appeared in bodily form as a dove upon Jesus Christ, and God Himself made a public declaration and confirmation that Jesus is His beloved Son, In whom He is well pleased. We can see the Trinity in operation, and in unity, showing that the Personalities are one.

As believers, by faith, we believe in the testimony of the scriptures so that we can enjoy the benefits we have in the Trinity. If you are not yet a friend of Jesus, you can do so by confessing your sins to Jesus, asking Him to forgive you and cleanse you with His blood. The blessings of the Trinity can now become yours.

A GREAT FISH
BIBLE TEXT: JONAH 1:12-17

"Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights" (Jonah 1:17).

Unlike mammals, fishes are cold-blooded sea animals, meaning that they do not maintain a constant internal body temperature; instead, their temperature is greatly influenced by their environment.

They are water habitants, they breathe with their gills located beside their heads, move with their fins, and have a swim bladder which helps them not to sink or float too high. There are about 33,000 species of fishes ranging from 8cm to 12cm in size.

In our text, a great fish swallowed up Jonah and vomited him at the city where he was to fulfil God's command. Jonah, a creature of God, was running away from God, but God used another creature to make him return to his place of duty.

When you look around today, you will find God's creatures put in place by God to help you accomplish the plan and purpose of God for your life. The sun, moon, trees, your parents, teachers, pastors are all put in place by God, so that you can be what God wants you to be. Do not reject or despise them, but rather pray that all the creatures of God around you would work together for your life to fulfil the purpose of God.

BE PATIENT
BIBLE TEXT: JONAH 1:12-17

"For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise" (Hebrews 10:36).

George's Uncle Timmy who lived abroad promised to send him a bicycle for his excellent performance in his final examinations. He gave the bicycle to his friend who was a merchant, and the man packed it with the cargo he was bringing to the city. On the day the bicycle would arrive, Uncle Timmy called George's mom to inform her so she could meet his friend at the cargo terminal of the Airline to collect the bicycle. George decided to follow his mom because he was eager to see his new gift. The goods were not collected at the expected time, and George became impatient. He told his mom he was tired and wanted to go home; all her pleas to let them wait for a little more time was in vain, so they left. Almost as soon as they drove out of the terminal, his mom's phone rang - the goods had been cleared and the man wanted her to quickly come and collect George's bike. She told him they were no longer in the place but already on their way home. The man told her they would have to see him in two weeks' time as he was travelling out of the city that night. George started crying and pleading with his mom to return to the place, but she did not grant his request. He learnt his lesson on patience that day.

God's promises may sometimes be delayed, but they will surely come. Don't leave the place of God's visitation, wait patiently for Him. For with God, delay is not denial.

• PRAYER: O God, grant me the grace to patiently wait for Your promises to be fulfilled in my life.

THE RAINBOW
BIBLE TEXT: GENESIS 9:9-17

"I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth" (Genesis 9:13).

The people in Noah's days were rebellious and wicked. They refused to obey God and went their own way. God sent Noah, whom He found to be righteous, to tell them to turn away from their wicked ways, but they refused to listen.

God told Noah to build an Ark as a place of refuge and salvation for himself and members of his family. He was going to bring rain on the earth to destroy every living creature. They still did not believe Noah. When the Ark was completed, God told Noah to take members of his family and also male and female of every animal into the Ark. When the assignment was completed, God locked them all in and released the rain from heaven. Water covered the whole earth, and every living thing perished. As the flood waters rose, Noah's eight-member family enjoyed God's divine protection under God's loving care.

At God's appointed time, the waters on the earth dried up. Noah and his family with the animals came out, and God gave the rainbow as a sign of the promise never to destroy the earth with water again. The rainbow should remind us of God's mercy and His faithfulness to His Word. Today, Jesus is our 'ARK of Safety'. Come to Him, and you will be kept safe from all evil that would come upon disobedient children.

MUCH MORE THAN WE ASK
BIBLE TEXT: EPHESIANS 3:17-21

"Now unto Him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us" (Ephesians 3:20).

The storehouse of God is inexhaustible. This means the resources in God's house is unlimited. It is like a river that never runs dry. No matter how much you have received from God, there is still more you can have from Him. God has and is willing to give us more than we can ask or desire.

God's promises cover every area of our lives. He saves from sin, gives us the grace to overcome sin, power to tell others about the love of Jesus, wisdom, healing and health, success in examinations, abundant life, and much more.

Whatever you have received from God, it is possible to get more. If you have been saved from sin and washed by the precious blood of Jesus, that same blood can sanctify you and make you pure within. He did it for other people, He will do it for you too.

Don't be moved by what others say or by their experiences, but by the word of God. There is more in store for you. Believe God for it, ask Him for it, trust in Him and then you'll see it done.

FORGIVENESS IS A DEBT
BIBLE TEXT: MATTHEW 18:28-35

"So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses" (Matthew 18:35).

In the parable of the unforgiving servant, Jesus shows us the necessity of forgiving one another irrespective of the offence. This means forgiveness is a debt that we owe one another since there will always be offences. God chose to forgive us by paying the price for our sin through the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ. He forgives us so that we may learn to forgive those who offend us. The Bible teaches us so much about forgiveness.

The Lord Jesus devoted a great deal of His time to teach His disciples on the need to forgive one another. This is because:

(i) For one reason or the other we will offend one another.

(ii) Not forgiving others, including our enemies, will stop our prayers from being answered.

(iii) Unforgiveness will bring disunity among us.

(iv) When we easily forgive those who offend us, we show to them that we are children of God.

(v) God will also forgive us and use us for His glory when we forgive others. It may not be easy to forgive those who despitefully use you, but you must do it in obedience to the Lord and for your peace of mind.

BEAR WITNESS OF THE LIGHT
BIBLE TEXT: JOHN 1:6-12

"The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe" (John 1:7).

Light is good and useful to man. Can you imagine a world without physical light like the sun, electricity and others? It will be a place where no one can survive. Even plants need light to grow well and be fruitful. This shows that light is very important to everyone and everything in the world. If light is so important in our physical world, then it is much more important in the spiritual. Though the world has physical light, yet, it is spiritually darkened. The world that is controlled by Satan is opposed to God and Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. The people of the world hate Jesus who is the Light of the world. Their works are full of evil and they love darkness rather than light.

Jesus is the Light that shines in darkness, and darkness can never overcome it. A child that is still doing bad things is in darkness; he needs to urgently seek Jesus, confess his sins and turn away from them. He must ask for forgiveness and cleansing through the blood of Jesus. Then the light of God will shine in his life and make him become a new creature.

Now, as a child of the Light, he must go around to be a true witness for Christ, even as John the Baptist did. Spread the light by preaching the good news to sinners around you in your school and neighbourhood.

PREACH THE WORD
BIBLE TEXT: MATTHEW 28:18-20

"Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost" (Matthew 28:19).

When Jesus was leaving the earth for heaven, He called all His disciples together and told them, 'Go and tell other people about me, tell them I love them and I want to be their Friend. I want to deliver them from sin and Satan'.

Imagine you have a friend whom you love so much. You love him more than food, you will want to tell every person you come in contact with about that friend. As a friend of Jesus, you must have the desire to love Him and obey His commandment by making Him known to your friends, so that they can receive the salvation He purchased for them with His blood on the cross at Calvary.

Therefore, as you play with your friends, as you share food, tell them about your dear Friend, Jesus. Tell them that He loves them and wants to live in their hearts. All they need to do is to confess all the bad things they've done and ask Him to forgive them, and He will forgive freely.

This is the most important duty of all friends of Jesus. Do your part and preach the gospel to all around you. Then you will enjoy special blessings from God.

"ME FIRST"
BIBLE TEXT: LUKE 9:59-62

"And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house" (Luke 9:61).

The attitude of 'Me first' or self-preference, that is, desiring to please yourself before others, is common to children and adults alike. It is that attitude of favouring or loving yourself above those around you. It is choosing your will, comfort, pleasure and joy in complete disregard to that of others.

It is easy to spot a 'me first' person. He is selfish, stubborn, self-willed, rude, unreliable and disobedient. He makes promises, and when he realizes it will cost him something more, he will not keep those promises.

The man in our Bible passage offered, on his own, to follow the Lord. Without having taken a step in that direction, he quickly placed a condition on his offer. He wanted to go and say good-bye first to the people at home. How is he sure that the relations at home will not discourage him from following the Master?

Sincere followers of Christ are those who do not think of looking back in their decision to follow Jesus. If you have chosen to love Jesus, having turned away from your sins and made Him your Saviour, Jesus must come first in your life. You cannot seek the counsel of your sinful friends and family members on how to serve your Saviour. Make up your mind to follow the path of righteousness and obedience to the Lord.

THE WORD OF GOD IS SWEET
BIBLE TEXT: PSALM 19:8-14

"More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb" (Psalm 19:10).

About 500 years ago, there lived an English scholar, a graduate of Oxford and Cambridge universities, called William Tyndale. He is fondly called 'Father of the English Bible.' He was condemned and executed - burnt alive at the stake publicly - on 6th October 1536. He was only 42 years old.

What was his offence? He translated the Greek Bible into English. The English Bible we easily read and understand today is largely due to his labour and sacrifice. His goal was to make the sweetness of God's word reach many souls.

What will you also do in honour of your Lord? Many servants of God have passed through many trials to make the Bible available to you. The only way you can appreciate their sacrifices is to treasure the Word, read it, think on it, obey it, preach it and hunger for it as the only food that can nourish and satisfy your soul.

• PRAYER: Lord, create a hunger in me for Your Word. Let it control all my thoughts and actions.

THERE IS TIME FOR EVERYTHING
BIBLE TEXT: ECCLESIASTES 3:1-8

"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven" (Ecclesiastes 3:1).

Our God is Omniscient; He knows what has happened, what is happening and what will happen. He knows that there is a right time for every thing under heaven. Nothing is new to Him. God is in all situations and no condition can change who He is.

Every human being passes through stages of growth. Babies learn to sit, crawl, stand and walk. These stages come with their challenges, but babies advance through them naturally.

There is no state or condition in life that is permanent. As believers, we should learn to endure our hard moments and wait patiently on God. We should learn to focus on solutions rather than focusing on problems.

When we are experiencing bad times, we should trust God that the situation is temporary and will soon give way to good and pleasant times, and the season will change. People usually take courage in the saying that, "Tough times do not last but tough people do." If unbelievers can believe that their hard situation will pass, how much more should Christians who are surrounded with unfailing promises of God.

Trust that God is present in every single time and season, and that He will come through for you no matter how hard things may be now. Put your confidence in the Almighty God, and He will change your bitter situations to blessings. Your time to laugh is here!

NO LACK, NO LOSS AND NO LIMITATION
BIBLE TEXT: ACTS 27:21-26

"And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship" (Acts 27:22).

Apostle Paul was in a ship as a prisoner bound from Jerusalem. While in the middle of the journey, a great storm arose threatening to drown all that were on board. Then, an angelic visitor came to Paul in the night and reassured him that he would arrive safely at his destination. This gave Paul great confidence in the midst of great danger at sea. In God's presence, he was free from fear while those who sailed with him were filled with terror. There are many things in this life that can make a child of God to be fearful. But faith in the word of God will give us courage to weather through to victory. It is this faith in God's word that made a man of God to make a declaration to his congregation, saying, "There shall be no lack, no loss and no limitation."

That statement is a prophetic declaration and affirmation of faith in God's promises. There were many people who believed this prophetic utterance and became overcomers in times of trouble. If you too will believe the word of God, you will never experience any:

Lack - of food, clothing, shelter and other basic needs.

Loss - of valuable things, your life or those of your loved ones.

Limitation - in your academic pursuits. The sky will not be your limit but your starting point. You will fly high like the eagles and become a great achiever. To enjoy all these provisions, surrender your life to God, trust God and pray to receive all that you desire.

JESUS: THE SON OF GOD
BIBLE TEXT: 1 JOHN 5:10-13

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God" (1 John 5:13).

Jesus Christ is the Son of God who came into the world to die for our sins. He is the second Person in the Godhead, and therefore, He is God.

No one in the whole of heaven and earth was qualified to die for the sins of the world. Jesus is the only sacrifice acceptable to God for the remission of sins. He is the only one who walked on the earth without committing sin. This made Him qualified to be our sin-bearer.

ODo you know Jesus? The Bible explains to us who Jesus is. He is the: A - Advocate for our sins, B - Beloved of the Father, C - Captain of our salvation, our D - Deliverer and Defender, E - Emmanuel - God with us, F - Faithful Witness, G - Good Shepherd, H - Healer, I - Intercessor, J - Judge, K - King of kings, L - Lord of lords, the M - Mediator, the N - Name above all names, O - Only Begotten Son of the Father, P - Prince of peace, Q - Quickening Spirit, R - Rock of Ages, S - Saviour, T - Teacher from heaven, U - Unsearchable riches of the kingdom, the V - Vine, the W - Word Personified, the X - Xpress image of the Father, Y - Yours faithfully to every need, Z - Zion, the joy of the whole earth.

What a wonderful Lord! Jesus is incomparable, inexhaustible, incomprehensible, invisible and immutable. Give your life to Jesus and worship Him with reverence and godly fear.

• PRAYER: O God, I believe in Jesus Christ Your Son as my Saviour and Lord. Reveal Him more to me.

VICTORY OVER TEMPTATION
BIBLE TEXT: LUKE 4:1-12

"And Jesus answering said unto him, It is said, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God" (Luke 4:12).

Temptation is suggestion from the devil to do bad things. Doing evil is disobedience to the word of God. Everyone living on earth is faced with temptation at one time or another. Our text shows how Jesus, the very Son of God, was also tempted by the devil, and He overcame. It is clear from the word of God that the devil is the chief source of all temptations. He also uses human agents or things to tempt people. Most times, our desires within the heart may lead us away from the purpose of God. Some of the temptations from the devil may be to steal, fight, be proud, commit immoral acts, etc.

Temptation is not sin, but yielding to temptation is sin. Sin is dangerous. It separates us from the love and goodness of God which can land someone in hell if he does not repent.

How can we overcome temptation? Victory over temptation is easy when we depend on the power of God.

(i) Give your heart and life to Jesus. This is by repenting, turning away from all sins and receiving Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord.
(ii) Be separate from sinners and stay away from the sources of temptation.
(iii) Diligently guard your heart against evil thoughts and imaginations.
(iv) Always obey God's word.
(v) Live in the fear of God.
(vi) Like Joseph, have a strong desire and determination to obey God, and do not listen to the devil. God will surely deliver you from every temptation

• PRAYER: Lord Jesus, give me power and strength to overcome every temptation that may come my way.
