The Gift of Wisdom

TEXT: TEXT: 1 KINGS 4:29-34

"And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore" (1Kings 4:29).

"God really is God”, says a writer, "He is not just applying for the job". He is kind and generous. The Lord in His unparalleled graciousness gave Solomon the freedom to ask what he wanted. In utter self-abasement, Solomon was excited, not by passion for greatness, or lust for riches, but by an overreaching desire to do God’s will and lead others in the path of righteousness. Little did Solomon know that that humble request will open a floodgate to all other blessings he would need for life. With God’s gift of wisdom came knowledge, understanding, discernment, riches, honour and worldwide fame.

God is unchanging; He is always the same. He is the Source of true wisdom. He still has the gift of wisdom to give to everyone who ask Him. He gave it to Solomon free of charge. And the Scripture says, "He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" (Romans 8:32). If wisdom is the principal thing and better than strength, why go through life hurting for the lack of a gift that God is willing to give to you for free? Definitely, you need wisdom in the family, office, church, etc. "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him" (James 1:5).

Wisdom is part of the holy attributes of God. It is completely different from worldly wisdom which devices and indulges in evil. Godly wisdom hates sin. So, salvation from sin is an indispensable experience everyone who seeks to possess the wisdom of God must have. His words teaches us His wisdom for successful living while His Spirit gives us the impartation of the gift of wisdom. The infilling of the Holy Spirit is also basic to the full manifestation of the gift of wisdom in our lives. How we need this wisdom for our practical daily living and exploits in God’s kingdom.
