Short Description:
This position is responsible for providing support for University Events and maintaining the overall cleanliness of a variety of University facilities. The primary area of responsibility is the Chiles Center and other Athletic facilities, although assignments may include the entire campus and off-campus events. Support for University events (NCAA athletic competitions, student orientation weekend, commencement, special events, etc.) may include general custodial work, building maintenance, carpet and hardwood floor care, major event set-ups and tear-downs, etc. The work is physical and often requires heavy lifting. Daily tasks will be performed based on the needs of the campus, assigned work orders, and designated projects. Overtime may be required and/or assigned to support University events as needed.

The work schedule for this position is Thursday through Monday, 11:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m. (Tuesday and Wednesday off).

This is a full-time, non-exempt, 12-month position with benefits. Benefits include: medical and dental insurance, life insurance, sick time and vacation time consistent with University policies, long-term disability insurance, flexible spending account benefits, tuition remission benefits generally starting after 90 days (employee) or 2 years (spouse and children) of employment, retirement contributions generally starting after 2 years of employment, and eligibility for the University’s home purchase assistance program consistent with program requirements. Responsibilities:
Perform set-up, teardown, and turnover at event locations based on timing of the event; this includes setting up tents, staging, chairs and tables, changing overall room layouts based on the purpose of the space, etc.

Move and set dorm room, office, and classroom furniture as needed to support University operations. May include performing minor furniture repairs.

Provide general custodial assistance for designated route and event/facility support for assigned University sponsored events; may be given cleaning route/assignment in a building per Supervisor's request.

Thoroughly and effectively clean the designated space upon completion of the event; perform a variety of tasks to meet cleanliness standards set by the department, i.e. vacuuming, mopping, dusting, cleaning windows, detailed cleaning, etc.

Proactively identify areas for extra cleaning and take necessary steps to resolve any issues.

Remove trash from common areas, empty trashcans, and perform campus trash runs if needed.

Respond to special or emergency circumstances such as spills or medical situations, which may include cleaning biomedical waste such as blood or vomit.

Maintain cleanliness of all Athletic facilities, keep aisles and hallways clear of equipment, keep janitor closets well organized and filled with supplies, and maintain professional appearance of facilities always.

Respond to floods or other leaks on campus, utilizing carpet extractors and wet/dry vacuum; may assist in cleaning and buffing a variety of floor surfaces as well as carpet cleaning on campus; may serve as back-up to other routes or facilities to assist with departmental coverage.

Respond to work orders as directed by supervisor and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.

Other duties as relevant to the duties of the position or as assigned by supervisor or supervisor’s designee.

Requirements:
Education and Experience:

Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Prior housekeeping/custodial experience.

Preferred: Prior events set-up and teardown experience.

Or equivalent education and/or experience.

Certificates and Licenses Required:

Valid driver’s license

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Superior attention to detail.

Strong customer service orientation.

Professional demeanor and ability to establish effective working relationships, professional rapport, and effectively accomplish work within a University setting that includes a wide array of individuals, groups, policies and processes. Ability to work effectively with various constituencies including students, the general public, faculty, staff, administrators, alumni, and other members of the UP community.

Competence with and commitment to diversity and inclusion; ability to be an effective partner with diverse students, faculty and staff.

Ability to read, understand, and carry out labels, directions and work orders.

Ability to read, write, and speak English sufficient to meet the requirements of the position.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions, generally in a sequence or with scheduled work activities occurring on a regular basis.

Knowledge of safety and health practices relating to custodial work, or ability to be trained in such areas.

Knowledge of cleaning procedures related to cleaning of institutions, as well as knowledge of cleaning supplies, or ability to be trained in such areas.

Ability to use and learn computers, technology, software and applications at the level of sophistication required for the duties of this position, including, without limitation, Microsoft Office and the internet.

Knowledge of OSHA/safety regulations and ability to become certified in various training.

Ability to operate basic tools and equipment, i.e. basic hand tools, forklift, high lift, pallet jack, power washer, carpet extractor, floor buffer, floor scrubber, wet/dry vacuum, etc.
