An informant to bandits in Zamfara state has revealed that over 5000 bandits operate in different part of the state .
The state commissioner for local government and chieftaincy affairs , Alhaji Bello Dankande who disclosed this said the informant made the startling revelations during security interrogation.
According to him, the informant revealed bandits had three (3 ) camps with over five thousand (5000 ) members .
“ The informant after he was arrested by security confessed that armed bandits have three (3 )different camps in Maradun and they have more than 5000 armed members ” , he added .
Dankande who met with officials of the Directorate of Animals and Livestock and Forestry said the state government had established check points for the banning of illegal transportation of firewood and animals across the state.
He lamented that “ informants are the major threats in fighting the bandits in the state ”.
According to him, transporters of firewood were alleged to be aiding armed banditry through the supply of some necessities such as petrol, pure water , bread and drinks to their den.
The commissioner who commended the efforts of Governor Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar and federal government towards security in the state, maintained that issue of security should not be politicized .
He disclosed that state government has placed a reward of three hundred thousand naira (N300 , 000 ) to any person that reveals information on bandits .
“ People should understand that informants are our major problems in fighting insurgency and those informants live within us , we have to sincerely check them out , reveal them and hand them to security to flush them out of us. ”.
He appealed to religious leaders to continue praying for the peace, security and development in the state, adding that all hands must be on deck to ensure total security of lives and property.
