Watch: Students Speechless When 'Trump's Quotes' on Immigration Turn Out To Be from Democrats https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MrnfbN2_yG0 BY BEN MARQUIS JANUARY 9, 2019 AT 3:16PM It has become readily apparent over the past few years that much of the staunch, knee-jerk opposition to President Donald Trump isn't really based so much on what he says or does, but rather on opposition to him as a person because of how he’s portrayed by the hateful and biased media. Case in point is the debate over illegal immigration and border security, where those on the left adamantly oppose everything Trump suggests as a solution, even as the exact same solutions have been proposed by prominent Democrats over the past 10 years or so. Campus Reform's Cabot Phillips recently travelled to American University in Washington, D.C., to prove this point by reading to students several statements about the topics that he attributed to Trump, only to then reveal that they had been uttered by Democrats after the students' initial reactions. To say those students were stunned into speechlessness as they grappled with the intrusion of reality into their carefully constructed cognitive dissonance would be an understatement. Prior to reading the quotes, Phillips first elicited from the students their thoughts on the current partial government shutdown over a border security funding request, and virtually all of the students blamed Trump for the impasse over an ineffective and unnecessary border wall to address a nonexistent problem. Phillips then proceeded to read the "Trump" quotes, the first of which he attributed to former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton: "We should spend money to build a barrier to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in. "(That’s a slight paraphrase; Clinton’s actual quote was, "I voted numerous times when I was a senator to spend money to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in.)" The second quote was from former President Barack Obama, who said, "We simply cannot allow people to pour into the U.S. undetected, undocumented and unchecked," while the third "Trump" quote came from Sen. Chuck Schumer, who said, “Illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple. Until the American people are convinced we will stop future flows of illegal immigration, we will make no progress.” Thinking those quotes were uttered by President Trump, the students lashed out rhetorically in opposition to them with a flurry of indignant and outraged responses. The remarks were labelled as "divisive" and "hateful speech in general" that put forward a "negative message." The students said the comments were "rude" to illegal immigrants, that they were discriminatory and "prejudiced" with “racial biases embedded in there." One student suggested the quotes were "jingoist," while another said they were "unacceptable." A third said the remarks were "dehumanizing." Phillips then revealed who had actually uttered those quotes — Clinton, Obama and Schumer — and you could see the students essentially deflate as they experienced the cold slap of reality against their preconceived notions. Virtually all were momentarily speechless. Some laughed in disbelief, others struggled to form a cogent response, while still others simply acknowledged their own shock and surprise at the revelation. There was, however, at least one student who was not surprised at all, an older graduate student who recalled growing up during the Clinton administration and seeing how Democrats used to be tough on illegal immigration. Whether these students realize it or not, they have fallen victim to liberal brainwashing and indoctrination resulting in unthinking and reflexive opposition to conservatives and Republicans simply because of those labels, not because of any actual ideological stance or principles. https://www.westernjournal.com/ct/watch-students-speechless-trumps-quotes-immigration-turn-dems/? |
