Did you read the part where the CJN Onnoghen didn't declare his assets until just two months after the sweep on the judiciary in October 2016? Even at that, Onnoghen only declared his Union Bank accounts and hid his Dollars, Euros, Pounds and Naira accounts with Standard Chartered Bank. He only funded those accounts through cash deposits running into thousands of hard currencies. The balances on those foreign accounts were $164,804.82, GBP108,352.2, EUROS 55,154.56 and N8,131,195.27 as at 14th November 2016.
Now, for a right thinking and patriotic citizen, is this is not enough reason to prosecute him for corruption and possible enrichment through bribes that must have influenced judicial cases?
You've made a valid point. However, if the FG needs to prove that this not a witchhunt. They should also inform the other justices in the Supreme court to declare thier assets and also investigate thoroughly. You can't just attempt to remove the CJN a month to the general elections and expect people to not raise flags or alarm. 4 Likes |

OEPHIUS: Buhari Trying to Illegally Remove CJN
Earlier today, the Federal Government in a desperate bid to forestall democratic process on the countdown to Nigeria's Presidential elections, asked the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Walter Onnoghen to immediately resign as Head of Nigeria's judiciary over a very weak allegation of false asset declaration.
To further display their desperate tactics, the FG is planning to arraign the CJN before Justice Danladi if the Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja.
Sources close to the CJN have revealed that the Chief Justice is unfazed by the theatrics of the Federal Government and will not resign, instead would rally the support of the body of benchers behind him and face the Federal Government which he is a part of, head on.
The Federal Government, led by a machiavelian Cabal within the Presidency have already named Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammed as the CJN's possible replacement.
A source has confirmed to reporters that the planned removal of the CJN is in line with the APC's long term plan to make all sensitive positions in Government especially the Judiciary Northern in order to control election tribunals which have become a ripple effect of elections in Nigeria.
Now regarded as an affront on Nigeria's democracy and an act of desperation, the planned arraignment of the CJN by the FG is a last trick in the book as an imminent defeat looms in the February 16 Presidential polls where the President's ruling party is not campaigning.
This tactic was once used to try and bully the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki over a period of 3 years where there were constant abuse on the institution of the National Assembly.
While Nigeria awaits a turn of events on Monday following the trumped up allegations of the FG, it would be interesting to see how Nigerians would react to this recent attack on the Institution of the Judiciary which is the last hope of the common man.
