Electioneering is a game that requires fairness, trust and integrity, among others. While the so-called Ondo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mrs. Adebayo Ayoka, is wriggling in integrity crisis arising from her ignoble role in the Ekiti re-run, INEC, as an umpire, is immersed in the same cobweb owing to its condemnable role in the 2007 elections and its re-runs, bye-elections, among other fall-outs.



By giving Ayoka for an umpire job, the INEC commissioner, Prof. Attahiru Jega, is giving Nigerians what to expect from the 2011 elections.



Nigerians don‘t have any problem with Prof. Jega retaining Ayoka Adebayo as an INEC employee; but the woman cannot be seen to conduct any credible election even if she does so with all honesty.



In matters of elections, as in all games, justice must not only be done but MUST BE SEEN TO HAVE BEEN DONE. So, it goes beyond INEC chairman thinking for Nigerians.



Besides, the President has promised Nigerians credible elections and a REC whose integrity is in doubt is a burden to that promise.
