Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State, Chief Victor Umeh, All Progressives Grand Alliance Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central were among the high profile APGA stakeholders who miraculously escaped severe injuries as the podium mounted by APGA stakeholders during a recent rally at Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area collapsed.

According to an eye witness, the rally which was tagged, ‘APGA Thank You Tour’ saw a huge turn-out of APGA faithful at the field and sought to mobilize the party for the coming elections. With more and more APGA leadership mounting the stage to identify with the governor and other APGA stakeholders, the stage yielded to the weight of the people and caved in.

While Nnaemeka Obitube, an Abagana based social media activist alleged that Governor Willie Obiano left the scene of the event in anger after the event, Uche Nworah, Managing Director of Anambra Broadcasting Services, ABS, refuted the claim insisting that he was at the event and that no such thing happened.

“Nobody was injured and the event continued immediately. The speakers including the governor stood on the aluminium steps and addressed the crowd. The event ended on a happy and glorious note. I was there so I saw everything,” he wrote replying to Obitube on his facebook wall.

Corroborating Nworah, James Eze, Governor Obiano’s Chief Press Secretary said that what caused the collapse was a “sudden surge by the large crowd,” and that nobody was hurt.

“The ‘thank you tour’ mounted by the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to mobilize party [faithful] for the coming general elections witnessed a mammoth crowd at Abagana, Njikoka Local Government today.

“A sudden surge by the large crowd eventually led to the collapse of the stage with many party leaders on it. However, no one was hurt from the crash,” he wrote.
