Even with all the rubbish church church, still look at the rubbish country! Fvucking apes! Na them they preach pass and na us still dey suffer pass!
And with their f.ckery, the Church has the highest nos of private Universities in Nigeria offering admission to thousands of the "rich" one that would have denied your brothers admission into the Public Universities, remains the only counselling bay for citizens molested by your government and salvage them from depression, modify so many from becoming armed robbers, drug addicts and so endless things the church have done.
Yet you will open your mouth to condemn the church. What has your side contributed to uplifting humanity? I need an answer

You may, but let's be frank, even if Oyedepo sold all he had and dumped it on the university, (and to be honest, I expect him to do so!)...it would only adequately fund the university....for a few years.

It's like what I hear when Nigerians say we should...rightly...cut the salaries of all the rich politicans in the National Assembly and use it to fund unviersity. We spend N1 trillion on the National Assembly. That's a lot. But according to the ASUU-FG agreement of 2009...ALL our federal universities needed N1.5 trillion in one year for adequate funding...in extra funding.

One more thing...I wonder why people complain about Oyedepo. Afe Babalola and others have non-church affiliated universites that charge even higher. And all of them have one thing in common...zero access to govt fund.

At least....YOU went to covenant. You had access to good hostel and class room facilites as a result of high fees. I went to a public university . For N2000 (later N18000 per annum)...I got poor hostels (six per room in my first year), poor cafeteria facilities, poor labs, and poor libraries. And zero computers.
1 trillion naira is chicken chance to Oyedepo. Our school fees is not been used for any thing. Everything built, bought even paying of salary is done by the church. So Oyedepo can make covenant university absolutely free for the next 100years

What you have written is an advantage to the world. Now I understand why some Universities charges high Tuition fee. Liverpool just scored 4 against Crystal Palace: Maybe football lovers can explain how its 4:3 where two goals was scored in stoppage time. grin

The relevance of a university is not in how many poor people's kids it educated. If it were, Ahmadu Bello Uni would be relevant than Stanford. The relevance is in solving the many problems facing humanity. You may not be able to attend John Hopkins University but in many ways John Hopkins has benefited you and many other poor people across the globe. They do this when they create vaccines, innovate new ways to do surgery etc.

Have you ever wondered why scholarships are giving to indigent brilliant kids in many ivy leagues and not poor dull kids. It is not because they pity them but that those poor brilliant kids should come and improve the mandate of the universities by contributing to research.

As it is here in Nigeria, the public universities have more problems than the society it is supposed to help because govt and the people live under the illusion of free higher education. We have sacrificed the relevance and functionality of universities in the name of access. If the church unis focus on giving access they would also face the problem the public universities are challenged with in greater proportion and would never have the opportunity to make a mark like their counterparts outside the shores of naija.

Don't ask a university if it is free, ask if it is relevant. Expensive is a price we should be willing to pay to have functional universities.

Oyedepo's church collects N600billion in offerings and tithes yearly

Note that he has to pay church workers , pastors, church businesses, primary schools, and secodary school from that.

University budget too comes from there as well.

So, he does not have N1 trillion sitting down somewhere.

No, the guy you quoted has asked a valid question....

I know one guy who is where he is today because a missionary gave him free admission to the school he was running. If not for that missionary that guy would have ended up doing menial jobs for a living.

The truth is, university cannot be cheap.(That is the truth ASUU and FG are dodging from...and why we have strikes up and down...)

But I think we Christians can lend a hand. Run scholarships, help the poorest of the poor, sponsor a student, fundraising, maybe a joint scholarship fund funded by CAN which can be funded by voluntary contribiutons...and also by making it an investment fund...which would in theend at least cushion the effect.
the best contribution...bt hw many persons epp this days esp wen de and dier families are ok..but ur submission are apt

A foresight of this shows me dat d gap between the rich and the poor will still persist in the near future.

*LIST OF CHURCH OWNED/AFFILIATED-LICENSED, AWAITING LICENSE AND PROPOSED UNIVERSITIES IN NIGERIA

Compiled by Leke Beecroft

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.”

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭5:14‬

The Church has consistently played her role as the source of light in the nation. Despite hues and cries about the emergence of private universities, it is an irony that most public universities are presently on strike while church owned ones are functional. Presently some of the best universities in the nation are run by churches. They can only get better. The impact of Christian universities are not readily apparent at the moment; however I make bold to say that in a decade from now, the gap would have been clear and the difference between the church owned and other universities would have been widened in favour of the Church.

Universities need adequate funding in order to be maintained and carry out research activities among others. Presently most public universities are grappling with these so much that there are plans to increase public university fees to about N250,000 per student while provision would now be made for student loans to be repaid at 5 per cent interest. This was the very reason church owned universities were criticized from the onset.

There are presently a total of 79 approved private universities out of a total 169 universities in Nigeria, 39 of which are church owned/affiliated. A further 15 are in different stages that would lead to approval.

Well, to be sincere I don't think Covenant really did any much media push. The first five private unis(Madonna, Babcock, Igbinedion, Bowen, Covenant) enjoyed pioneer status. People knew them, didnt trust them but enrolled as public universities where on the brink of total collapse brought about by heightened tensions caused by cult groups, industrial actions, student and indigene crisis.

Over the years Madonna quickly dwindled and igbinedion continues to decline. Bowen stagnated and failed to use the boom years to her advantage. To make matters worse better private universities began to spring up between 2009 - present. Covenant on the other hand had a wealthier owner who concentrated resources on not so many programmes, created a very unique identity. In 2012 it translated into a research driven university and would continue to attract attenrion and grow exceedingly.

Babcock on the other hand is owned by the Adventists who are probably the best church with the capacity to run a university. And this shows that despite having a 20 year loan to repay is till doing well.

Why did you say your own Covenant university is owned by 'Living faith church' NOT Bishop Oyedepo but when it came to other Eastern private universities like Tansian, caritas and Madonna you mention Rev FR Ede as the owner NOT Catholic church not even the Catholic prayer ministry? Secondly, How many medical professionals has your covenant produced, at least we know Madonna has been producing medical graduates for the past 15 years. It is no mean feat, ask many federal and state universities who find it almost impossible to get medical accredition from various medical councils and NUC.

Stop your bias and do more research.

[quote author=Mrbolt565 post=74921132] go to the Muslim owned universities and you'll see one thing, there's freedom and they're not hypocrites. They allow you to do what you like although they're still rules but there's freedom. Enter Christian uni, you'll see the opposite, putting people under pressure, telling them u can't do this and that! All for what! How do you expect people to be exposed and experienced if they can't get their freedom to do what they want! At the end of the day you'll see that these people that implemented this rules are useless foolish hypocrites. The so called pastors are the ones sleeping with the female students, doing Ritual and other rubbish. Christains are bastards! And you'll all rot for eternity! [/q

D abuse of freedom is inevitable when left unchecked. D birthplace of hypocrisy is in d Muslim community (university, etc) sabo da kaza, baya hana yanka. Dats is hypocrisy.
