Nigeria, her 180 million plus citizens are in chaos AS The 2019 Presidential Election Approach

For those who do not know who Nigerians would be voting for next month, let me tell you the choice they have without emotions.

First, Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation with over 180 million people, is in total chaos. Poverty is legendary with close to 100 million people living on less than a United States dollar a day.

Two third of the population goes to bed without electricity every night and millions of people have not had electricity for over a year.

In the north, Boko Haram terrorists and herdsman and wreaking havoc, beheading Nigerian soldiers and civilians and sending millions away from their homes.

The University staff are on strike as I write to you right now with no end in sight, yet the parents of the Nigeria Students on strike are busy campaigning day and night for political party of their choice.

Factories built in the 1970s and 80s have all collapsed. Tens of thousands of Nigerians are refugees in Cameroon, sent away by Boko Haram horrors. In that chaos and without any reliable government

Thousands of pastors and imams exploit the situation and make themselves rich while promising heaven to the people after death.

It was in those chaotic circumstances that General Muhammadu Buhari came to power in 2015, blaming Nigeria's poverty on gargantuan corruption and touting his military credentials as the solution to Boko Haram terror.

If given the chance, he told a traumatized population, I will use the recovered loot to rebuild the economy, create job, reduce unemployment, fix healthcare, the educational system and begin to diversify the economy via agriculture.

They gave him a chance and he failed. The same problems cited above have remained or been magnified. And another election is here. A former Vice President named Atiku Abubakar is now telling them he alone can fix the problem.

Quickly, the Buhari men fired back, saying corruption could not fight corruption. They told the people that there was a sealed indictment against him in the United States following a corruption case that sent a Congressman from New Orleans to prison.

They said if he comes to the United States he would be arrested and tried. So for 12 years, he stayed away and only this week, he was able to visit America to prove he was clean.

But in reality, in Washington, the Trump administration was getting fed up with Buhari and saw him as an Islamic fundamentalist, prompting Trump to urge him on April 30 to end the massacre of Christians.

But the trial of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the silencing of the opposition with many arrests, and his falling out with former President Obasanjo have also turned Washington against Buhari.

So now what? Who should Nigerians choose, a man with a relatively good reputation who just failed or made things worse, or a former Vice President who cannot justify his massive wealth? That's the choice they have.
