You can talk about black freedom and civil rights without mentioning Martin Luther King Jr. Yesterday was MLK Day, a day set aside annually to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr.

Martin Luther King Jr was born on January 15, 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was born into a black family and back then racism was at his peak.

Growing up in Atlanta, King attended Booker T. Washington High School, a school for African-Americans. On the ride home by bus, he and his teacher, who is also a black were ordered by the driver to stand for white passengers to sit. Insane right? But it was real.

King initially refused but complied after his teacher told him he would be breaking the law if he did not submit. During this incident, King said that he was “the angriest I have ever been in my life.”

From that moment onward, King became a black activist and went on to achieve the great feat. Though he was assassinated, his dream came true decades later when Barack Obama became President of the United States of America.
