‘One’, a single released by Tiwa Savage in November 2018, has been taken down from YouTube. Danny Young, an Afropop artiste, had alleged that the singer lifted the lyrics of his song for her single. Young’s song, ‘Oju Ti Ti Won’, was released in 2008. He had threatened to file an intellectual copyright suit against Savage. While the outcome of his threat is yet to be known, it was discovered on Wednesday that the video for ‘One’ is no longer available on the YouTube page of Savage. In place of the video is a message which reads: “Tiwa Savage One is no longer available due to a copyright claim by a third party.” Young confirmed to NET that he filed the complaint against the singer. He said: “When I heard her song last year, my lawyers reached out to her lawyers but they ignored us. They thought it was just one small boy talking. “Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of respect for Tiwa Savage and I respect her craft as well, but you see, two brothers can have a case in court and still have a good relationship with each other. “Tiwa and every other singer out there is a role model, so we must not continue to operate in an industry that has no structure. I am just trying to do the right thing and trying to prove that copyright issues must be taken seriously especially in the Nigerian entertainment industry.” Following the release of ‘One’, Savage had publicly thanked Wale Turner for “blessing” her with the song. "Ododun la n r'orogbo ododun la n rawusa, ododun la n r'omo obi lorigba my life don better" This is the line that is causing bone of contention. But the truth is apart from "my life don better" that is there those other words are just Yoruba proverbs that anybody can use. Tiwa should sue Danny Young for false accusation because Danny wasn't the originator of the proverb. Also "My life don better" is a common pidgin sentence that anybody can use. Danny wants to trend again or perhaps he wants money Frm Tiwa. However I can't deny the fact that I love d song where he used those lines in 2008 "Ojutitiwon" was a banger that year another song that I love was "My girl" ft Kel and Paul Play. |
