Nazism, Fascism, Buharism: Why The International Community Must Act Fast- Kadiri by TheSaxophonist: 7:46am On Jan 29, 2019 |
Cephas Kadiri Warning bells began to clang all over Europe in 1933, when the Nazis led by Adolf Hitler took power in Germany after winning majority seats at the 1932 parliamentary elections. When Rtd. General Muhammadu Buhari assumed power in May 2015, right thinking Nigerians began to question the patriotism of those who helped enthrone the former junta leader. To some of us, it was saddening that some Nigerians had fallen for the gimmicks of a despot in Civilian apparel, for a leopard as we know never changes its spots. When Benito Mussolini and his Fasci Di Combattimento marched into Rome on October 20 1922, with claims of restoring Italy to Greater heights, many Italians took his words for it. Unfortunately, in less than 5 years, free speech had been curbed and all political opposition dissolved. When Rtd Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and the APC led Federal Government moved into Abuja in 2015, claiming to restore Nigeria to old heights with their phoney Change mantra, many Nigerians believed the deception. Four years later, the Federal Government has come hard on outspoken critics, clamping down on opposition and constantly violating the basic rights of stunch aspersers. When communists burnt down the Reichstag on the night of February 27 1933, Hitler suspended parliament indefinitely, thus acquiring the opportunity to violate basic human rights of Germans and dismantle his political opponents at will without resistance from the country's lawmakers. World leaders refused to bat an eye. On Aug. 2018, in a fashion mirroring that of the Nazi Schutzstaffel, the Muhammadu Buhari led secret police stormed Nigeria's national assembly in a well planned attack to execute a legislative coup. Nigerians cried out! The international community was called upon, leaving the Buhari led federal Government no other option than to revert its Hitleric plan. The Fascist leader Mussolini repeatedly promised to fight corruption, and put an end to economic hardship. A while after his sugar-coated rhetorics, with intimidation and terror he was ousting elected officials in Northern Italy. Rtd. Gen Muhammadu Buhari repeatedly promised to tackle corruption and put an end to Nigeria's economic woes, in less than a year we witnessed the senile autocrat pilot the country into its worst economic travails in decades. Today he is ousting constituted authorities without remorse. Following the passage of the Nuremberg laws of September 1935, and Hitler's ensuing stratagems to systematically exterminate German Jews, world leaders respected the decision of a despot to make laws for the people. The results were more than terrifying. Following Rtd. Gen Buhari's tacit admission to supporting the heinous crimes perpetrated by the dreaded Fulani herdsmen (the world's 4th deadliest terror group) with his carrot approach to addressing the matter as one of national security; world leaders refused to intervene, leaving helpless Nigerians to die in scores. When President Paul Von Hindenburg passed away on the second of August 1934, Adolf Hitler assumed total political control over Germany, merging the positions of Chancellor and President; thus obliterating the sacred constitutional principle of "trias politica" -separation of powers. World leaders turned a blind eye. Now Rtd. Gen Muhammadu Buhari has pissed on Nigeria's constitution yet again, removing the head of the country's Judiciary; and thus scrubbing off that sacred constitutional principle of "Trias Politica", world leaders have placed their jaws on their hands, with no concrete steps In sight. In 1648, world leaders gathered at the province of Westphalia, recognizing the sovereignty of each nation-state over its own territory and domestic affairs, to the exclusion of all external powers, on the principle of non-interference in another country's domestic affairs. The rationale behind this historic treaty was the need to curb the excesses of state actors, provide checks and balances in international politics and above all, to break the winds of political hegemony. However, taking into careful consideration the imperfection of man made laws, it would appear more than reasonable that when the basic rights of citizens are violated or threatened by state institutions who swore to protect them, the doctrine of Westphalian sovereignty recognizing the independence of such state must be overridden! This assertion is rooted in the certitude that the law was made for man and not man for the law. With the unimaginable horrors witnessed by helpless millions around the world, at the hands of totalitarian rulers; world leaders must at all cost strive to avoid the depths of human depravity once again. Warning bells are clanging! Cephas Kadiri- is a Nigerian political activist and public commentator. Send your opinions/articles on buzzing socioeconomic and political.....
