In the recent time Airtel Africa, a subsidiary of Indian telecommunications company Bharti Airtel which services over 15 African countries, received an investment of USD 200 million from the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) through a primary equity issuance in the company.

According to them this funds will primarily be used to reduce Airtel Africa’s debt, which currently stands at approximately USD 3.7 bn, and in the process also strengthen Bharti Airtel’s consolidated books.

Six global investors, which includes Warburg Pincus, Temasek, Singtel and SoftBank Group International, helped Airtel Africa raise USD 1.25 bn in November through a placement of shares. The telecommunications company aims to raise an additional USD 1.5 – 1.6 bn around June of 2019.
