Press Release Port Harcourt, February 3, 2019 O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation set to host a week-long free medical mission in Akinima, Ahoada West Local Government Area. The O.B. Lulu-Briggs Foundation is set to host a week-long free medical mission in Akinima, Ahoada West Local Government Area from February 4 – 8, 2018 at the Primary Health Care Centre, Akinima. The medical team headed by Dr. Blessing Etuk Akpan, Consultant Urologist, paid a condolence visit to Dr. Mrs Seinye O.B. Lulu-Briggs, the Chairman of the Foundation. High Chief (Dr) O.B. Lulu-Briggs who the Foundation is named after passed away in Accra, Ghana on December 27, 2018. The Akinima Medical Mission will be staffed by 60 medical and 20 non-medical volunteers. They will provide surgical procedures, general health consulting, dental care; pediatric care, eye evaluation and treatment. Tests and medicine will be available via a pop-up laboratory and pharmacy. It will be the 31st medical mission that the Foundation has hosted Since 2005 when the program began. Since then 117, 863 people in rural or peri urban communities across Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa and Cross River states have received free medical attention. This would be the second such mission to Ahoada West Local Government Area. The Foundation expects that it would be able to serve more than the 6, 490 people it treated the last time it hosted a medical mission in Akinima. It is encouraging attendance through tailored radio jingles and announcement across Ahoada West LGA. Dr. Akpan extended the teams condolences, “On behalf of all the medical volunteers of the Foundation we wish to express our deepest condolence to you and the entire family on the demise of your husband, patriarch of the family, our sponsor and sole benefactor, High Chief (Dr.) O.B. Lulu-Briggs. He touched numerous lives positively in more ways than we can possibly enumerate. We are proud to be part of his passion for helping the helpless in our society through the humanitarian work of the Foundation. As medical volunteers we cherish the tears of joy and gratitude that our service brings to the faces of the countless beneficiaries of this scheme, and strongly believe that our dear High Chief will continue to live in the hearts of past, present and future beneficiaries of our noble service to humanity. May Almighty God grant you and the family the fortitude to bear this great loss.” Amongst the medical volunteers on the condolence visit were Dr. Job Otokwala, Consultant Anesthesiologist, Dr. Lawson Stephenson, Consultant Medical Microbiologist and Parasitologist, and Dr. Emmanuel Iyo, the Foundation’s part-time doctor. Since High Chief O.B. Lulu-Briggs passed away well-wishers have been trooping to his home to offer respects to his family.
