The immediate past Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Kogi State Chapter, Oladele John Nihi has been arrested by men of the Nigerian Police.



In a swift reaction, Justice Helpline Foundation has called for his immediate and unconditional release, describing the arrest as negating the peace accord.

The foundation while reacting to the arrest, Director litigation, A.O Jonathan, said it is calling on the United Nations, the Acting Inspector General of Police to be aware of the harassment and arrest of citizens in Kogi West senatorial district ahead the election slated for Saturday.

The former youth council chairman was arrested alongside his Secretary, Ibukun in there hotel rooms in Okoro Gbedde at Naomi Hotel, near Kabba.

The police alleged to be men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad were said to armed to the teeth with mask, shot sporadically, thus making residents run for safety before the arrest of the youths leader, were said to have been led by a Council Administrator.



The former youth council chairman is a staunch supporter of Sen Dino Melaye, the PDP Senatorial candidate for Kogi West in the next Saturday’s election

For now there is no detail leading to why he is arrested, the whereabouts of the youth leader is still yet to be determined.
