A lawyer has been arrested by the police in Lahore, Pakistan for murdering his wife after finding out that she was expecting a female child against his hopes of having a son.

According to reports, the deceased wife's brother, Ali Ahmed, said that after a scan revealed that the late wife was expecting a girl, her husband persuaded her to get an abortion, a pressure she refused to succumb to.

He then proceed to hang her and made it look like a suicide.

Ahmed claims that his sister had complained that her husband did not want a female daughter, a decision which led her father to suggest that “if you don’t want a daughter you can give her to us.”

The deceased was his second wife after his first failed marriage. He had three children from his first marriage.

The Deputy Superintendent of Police Saleemullah Lashari has said that the police will investigate the matter after getting the post-mortem and forensic report.
