The Egyptian government cut internet connections across their country to silence protests, leaving nearly all of its citizens without online access. But they weren't entirely successful. When governments shut down broadband and mobile connections, here's what to do.

1. Use land line Dial up
If naija ISP will not allow internet access to citizens, other countries will, meaning anyone with long-distance calling capabilities can break out their old school 56k modem and dial-up an ISP in another country.

Several ISPs—such as Budget DialUp—offer dial-up numbers all over the globe.

2. FireChat (for very short distances) is an iOS and Android app that lets smartphone and tablet users chat even without a cellular or internet connection. ... However, it can also be used to chat over the internet, via its "everyone" mode.

3. Satellite phones - this is expensive but can be Used by party agents to transmit results. Can work anywhere as it names implied, it uses satellite links

4. Pirate radio
Requires some technical equipment but others like Radio Biafra, Radio Kudirat could be activated to send messages via the simple transistor radios. The frequencies for the radio must be predetermined and broadcast by friday before the elections

5. AD-HOC Networking
Most wireless routers, PCs, laptops, and even some ultramobile devices like cellphones have the ability to become part of an “ad hoc” network, where different “nodes” (all of the devices on the network) share the responsibility of transmitting data with one another. These networks can become quite large, and are often very easy to set up. If used properly by a tech-savvy person, such networks can be used to host temporary websites and chat rooms. There are many internet tutorials on the internet for ad hoc networking, so feel free to google some.

6. Two way radios for short distances

Can be used to cover large distances if the spread overlaps
