He always strikes me as an intelligent guy. Some thing similar to this was also said by Philip Emeagwali. We sell the ore, crude and stuff to them it comes back with a hefty price tag. |

The former president said that when he was in office, “my friend, a European, said ‘capitalism is designed by us for ourselves, and not designed by us for you’ and I asked him ‘what do you mean?’ He said to me that capitalism is exploitative and he said to me, ‘give me a reason why I should buy your tonne of cocoa at $100, when I can buy it for $50 and also send it back to you for $2000?’ “I said the reason is in the interest of common humanity, and he told me that there is nowhere common humanity is written in economic books. So, what he is saying is that see, ‘Segun, capitalism means best for me and the worse for you.’ So, if that is what it means, let us get the best for ourselves. We are not even saying worst for others, but let us get the best for ourselves,” he said. I see nothing wrong with this person's definition of capitalism. If everyone does for himself, some will win and some will lose. Those who lose will learn to play a better game next time. Capitalism survives because it is closest to man's true nature. All other social constructs have failed. The issue is that the state must be a fair referee and enforce legal contracts fairly. The state must also play it's part in building a social welfare structure to assist those down on their luck. This is how you build a society with a steadily growing middle class without throwing the rest under the bridge. |

I think our so called leaders since independent always hanged their brains and strategies at the gate of the presidential villas (Dodan barrack or Aso rock) and put it on only after leaving office. Obasanjo should please go and bury his head in shame for having the opportunities in this world to make this country as a model for all black race and not only in Africa but he allowed them to filter away as a result of greed and arrogance. May God saves Nigeria from these fake leaders. |
