Governance: NANS seeks 35 percent inclusion of youths in Oyo

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has conveyed an emergency students’ stakeholders’ meeting in oyo state aimed at repositioning and restoring the lost glory of the state.

The National Assistant Secretary General of NANS, Comrade Olanrewaju Segun Babatunde, disclosed this in a statement to newsmen in Abuja on Monday.

The group also expressed with dismay at what it called the deplorable state of education in the state, which it said has been marred with regular strikes, thereby elongating the half-life of Nigerian students on campuses in the state owned-institutions.

According to him, “NANS taught this expedient, as oyo state is presently directly in possession of one of the very vital offices in NANS national secretariat (office of the assistant secretary general), as such it becomes imperative for me, as the custodian of the NANS national secretariat to as a matter of urgency change the tune of the known anti students styles of governance in Oyo state, through legitimate and well-articulated structure demands.

“On the 15th of February, 2019 the office of the Assistant secretary general of NANS national conveyed a meeting of concerned stakeholders in Oyo state, to agree on needful conditions to support party/candidate of any political party.

“We resolved to put up our conditions in a position paper, which definitely summarises the cumulative realistic needs and demands of Nigerian students in Oyo state, coupled with the fact past and serving students leaders should occupy not less than 35percent of positions in government.

“Nigerian students in Oyo state are determined to restore the lost glory of Oyo state, through mobilising and voting a credible candidate, after entering an agreement with us through the pact signing.

“NANS make bold to say and expresses with utmost dismay the deplorable state of education in Oyo state, marred with regular strikes, thereby elongating the half-life of Nigerian students on campuses in Oyo state owned institutions.

“NANS leadership in Oyo state under my supreme watch as the most senior ranking national officer in Oyo state shall put an end to all these avoidable but deliberately inflicted acts by our selfish leaders and looters in govt at all levels, shall become a thing of the past.

“As we look forward to political parties that are ready to sign the pact with us and listen to our yearnings, We implore well-meaning and intellectual Nigerian students in Oyo state to remain resolute, hopeful and committed that a better Oyo state is possible”.
