Always do the following before you complain about a lost device (phone).

1. Go to settings on the phone
2. On the settings click on Security
3. then scroll down click on device administrator
4. then click on find my phone tick and make sure it is on

You could also download the application on another device if you have more than one phone. This process will enable you find, erase, and remotely lock your device even when it's not on your hand. you can get the exact location where the phone is. If you find it difficult, please comment here.

Don't also forget to enable encryption feature on your phone too, prevents the thief from formatting it.. Else all this setup is just useless cos if the thief is techy he could just load another OS
