The copyright on any work belongs to the author from the day of conception up till 70 years after the death of the author.

You are protected from copyright infringement nationally and internationally and you have the absolute rights to asert yourself as the copyright owner anywhere all over the world and you have the right to sue anyone who violates your copyright in any way such as duplication of your work for commercial purposes without your consent.

But remember that fair use is allowed for media commentary, etc, etc.
