What is a home?

“I feel at home”

Have you ever cried these words?

Home is not just a house rather home is a result of feeling!

Do you know that we do not only feel at home in a house? We feel at home with a person or persons. We can feel at home with material things and even animals. We can also feel at home with OURSELVES!

“It is not a matter of the nature of the building nor house rather it is what we feel in the house that either makes it a home or not”

The adage that you can build a house but not a home is always is true!

There are cases where people feel at home in their workplace. If you do, put it up in the comment and state where you work. For employees to last long, be more productive and happier, they deserve to feel at home in their workplace.

The first and most important factor that breeds the homely feeling is TRUST. As put by Simon Sinek, trust is a feeling; you feel that he/she is trustworthy. Following trust is the feeling of safety and security and finally the feeling of peace. Organizational leaders need to create a work environment that breeds trust; trust orchestrated by people feeling safe, recognized and most importantly protected from external aggressions. Mind you that trust can be broken at certain points but with repentance and forgiveness, it can be rebuilt over time!
You:

It is very important to note that you have to first feel at home with yourself, start from within before the light can radiate out and shine on others. As you cannot give what you do not have, you can only love God and your neighbour as much as you love yourself!

You can turn yourself, your house, organization into a home or even anywhere you are by your words, actions and thoughts. The thoughts are most important for they become words and actions.
Right and Enduring Core Values

Build a life based on true core values, make people feel desired and cherished, care for and protect them. One unique thing about core values is that they transcend beyond persons and time. Try out values like love, friendship, humaneness (or for me being truly human), integrity, trustworthiness and such like. These can make just anyone feel at home with you. Won’t you feel at home with anyone with these values?

In an organization, paying people fat salaries is good but turning the organization into a home goes beyond salary.

Effective listening is also a vital tool in building a home.
