Over 10 supporters of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Idanre local government area of Ondo State are currently being hospitalised following an attack allegedly sponsored by the People Democratic Party (PDP) and and the wife of the former Chief of Army Staff, Mrs. Lara Ogomudia.

Suspected political thugs allegedly aided by some military men were said to have invaded a ward meeting of APC members in Ala, Idanre on Monday (March 4, 2019).

Eyewitnesses said the suspected gun-wielding thugs shot sporadically into the air to scare hundreds of APC loyalists in the meeting.

COMTRA Chairman, Idanre local government chapter, Mr. Adeleke Oyewole and 10 others were unlucky as they were macheted on the head and hand by the hoodlums.

Also, the military men, who allegedly joined the attack were said to have battered and horsewhipped some members of the party.

Lara, who is the daughter of the traditional ruler of Atosin-Idanre and a staunch supporter of the PDP State House of Assembly candidate for Idanre State Constituency, Hon. Festus Akingbaso a.k.a Obete, was accused of using soldiers to harrass APC members due to her husband influence in the military.

Sources said hoodlums suspected to be loyal to the PDP in Idanre have taken over the town due to the support they enjoyed from the military men.

A source revealed that it took the intervention of the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osibanjo and the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN, before these soldiers were withdrawn from Idanre.

"The PDP in Idanre are determined to kill people who may stand on their way of winning this Saturday State Assembly election in Idanre. APC members are now living in fear. The intention is to stop our members from coming out on Saturday to cast their votes.

"PDP thugs are deadly but nothing will deter us from mobilising and for the candidate of APC, who is generally accepted by the people of Idanre" Hon. Abiodun Akinwande, a chieftain of APC said.

One of the Chiefs of the ancient town, who pleaded anonymity called on the security agencies to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.

According to him "for the past 24 months now, Idanre have been peaceful under the present administration unlike what we used to experience in the past, when thuggery became order of the day."

"Some of us are highly disappointed in Lara Ogomudia who brought soldiers to harass people of Idanre, we never knew she could used her connection to intimidate her community."

*Jimoh Ibrahim derogatory post on Mrs Omolara Ogomudia an act of desperation by APC in Idanre* Hon Mayokun Akinmoladun

It is pertinent to note and to inform Idanre community that Chief Mrs Omolara Ogomudia did not send soldiers to Idanre as it was reported by Jimoh Ibrahim.

It is sine qua non to note that Mrs Ogomudia does not need to import Soldiers in times like this as the military are mandated as a sense of their duty to maintain peace and order before, during and after Election processes.

Therefore, the military could not wait to count corpses as there was a clash between the two major political parties in Idanre, hence the need for military intervention.

Mrs Omolara Ogomudia an illustrious daughter of Idanre Kingdom has every right to relate with whoever she chooses irrespective of their political affiliation.

APC should take note that PDP thugs were also checked as an arrest was made at PDP candidate house.

It was gathered that Mrs Ogomudia did not intervene in an arrest made on her first cousin in festus Akingbaso's house when the military and other security agencies visited, despite that he was not tagged to be a thug or a politician.

Mrs Ogomudia is not card carrying member of any political party. She made this clear on several occasions that she's not ready to enter the dirty mud of politics.

The question now is why should APC shed crocodile tears?when in the real sense of it,they should be happy the military brought normalcy back to the community.

Why do they want the military to leave? This can be linked to the story of king Solomon and the two women according to 1king 3:16-28.

It is now crystal to the entire community those who truly want the progress of Idanre and those who will rather damage the hard earned reputation of an illustrious daughter of the soil for them to maintain political status quo.

The community therefore call on APC in Idanre Local Government to apologize to Cheif Mrs Omolara Ogomudia for wanting to use her name as a cover up for their obnoxious behaviour and unpopularity among the people.

Meanwhile, the community appreciate the efforts, passion and the commitment of Mrs Omolara Ogomudia to the development of Idanre both in human capital development and her full support in other worthy causes.

ONDO ASSEMBLY CRISIS: WIFE OF FORMER CHIEF OF ARMY DENIES INVOLVEMENT

Wife of the former Chief of Army Staff, Mrs. Omolara Ogomudia has denied any involvement in the violence that engulfed Idanre Local Government Area of Ondo State during the recent House of Assembly election.

Mrs. Ogomudia, in a statement by her media consultant, Mr. Patrick Adeoye, reacted to allegations that she employed her connections to militarized the process and paved the way for the electoral fortune of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.

However, the lady accused the APC State Chairman, Who happens to be a native of Idanre Mr. Ade Adetimehin, of being economical with the truth, adding that the embattled politican was looking for whom to blame for his electoral misfortune.

"I am not a politician, and do not have sympathy for any political party. All I wanted, and sued for, before and during the elections, was peace in Idanre", she explained.

Mrs. Ogomudia argued that as a princess from the town, she would gain nothing by pitching some subjects against the other, and make her father's duty, as a traditional ruler, more difficult.

She claimed to have expended her personal resources "to build so many young people, and positively affected many families in Idanre", wondering why anyone would link her to maiming or attacking anyone for whatever reason.

She advised politicians to always be objective in their conducts, and eschew the habit of taking the electorate for granted while preparing for elections.
