Chelsea are the subject of interest from British self-made billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe .

The UK's richest man - whose wealth dwarfs industrialist-turned-media mogul Sir Len Blavatnik and Sir Philip Green - is keen to take charge at Stamford Bridge.

Sir Jim made his fortune with petrochemicals company Ineos but has always wanted to acquire a Premier League football club.

The 66-year-old is worth in excess of £21billion and recently purchased Team Sky.

He is a season ticket holder at Chelsea and, according to The Times , is seriously exploring the idea of buying the club.

But even though he isn't shy of a few quid, the Manchester-based tycoon will have to cough-up if he is to convince Roman Abramovich to sell.
The Russian reportedly requires £2.5b to hand the Blues over, more than 15 years after buying the club for just £140m.

That would secure a whopping profit having reined-in his spending in recent years.

Ratcliffe already owns Swiss football club Lausanne-Sport but is known to want to join the big boys and he thinks a deal to buy the five-time Premier League champions is possible.

Abramovich has come under pressure after a number of poor years, having last won the league in 2017.

Maurizio Sarri is in danger of being sacked in his first season with the club struggling to make the Champions League for the second year running.
Abramovich is said to be considering the future after the club suffered a huge stadium blow. They also face a transfer ban for the next two windows after being hit by a FIFA charge.
Plans for the redevelopment of their current home were shelved after a number of serious complications. The club blamed “an unfavourable investment climate” but that did little to quell rumours he wants rid of the club.

Abramovich accepts Chelsea will struggle to compete at the very top unless crowds are in-line with Europe's elite clubs.

Ratcliffe would be willing to invest in the team to held return the club to their peak, according to the reports.
