I mentioned that all generations have a 4cyl. I never mentioned year.
The 08 year might not have 4cyl but the brothers in the same generation 09 above do have it .

2009-up Toyota highlander had the option of 4 cylinder engines (2.7 L 1AR-FE I4)

It is just not too common ( for the obvious reason of being hopelessly under-powered)
