Agriculture won't contribute much since the attacks by herdsmen cannot be curbed. 1 Like |

Prodigytal:Yes we need government support for agriculture. The mitigating factor responsible for decline in agriculture growth is still there. The masses are not ready to make the necessary sacrifices that is why that sector is still stagnant. You can't compare entertainment with agriculture. This two are different from each other Mind you the banking industry had the input of the government that is why it is doing well. 1 Like |

You all continue electing ineffective politicians as public officials. Armageddon is coming. Almost 400 million people. You will start feeding on one another. Are we not seeing the signs already. From Badoo, to stolen pants, to ritualists and other atrocities. Right in broad day light, human may start feeding on another human and it will.seem normal. |

Agriculture makes up less than 10% of the gdp of China or india. A decrease in the percentage agriculture contributes to gdp is usually a good thing especially if other areas like services and manufacturing make up a larger chunk of your gdp |

Nigeria will not be a major agricultural contributor due to space; Nigeria is populated with a small country size. The only way nigeria can, is to go food tech route, like modifying crops, ability to grow food in high rise buildings using climate control, etc. Nigeria should study places like japan, to see how they do it. |

Prodigytal: We need FG to provide enabling environment for biz to survive... This is the core problem of every sector in Naija... We need light, we need transportation, we need good infrastructure.... It cost =N=40,000 per tonne to import maize into Nigeria from India... And yet our farmers can deliver same one tonne of maize at N90,000 to N120,000. How do you compete in this volatile environment ? FG, SG, LG ..Agbero etc will tax your biz ...How do you even survive as a business owner As at now in Naija... it pays to do yahoo yahoo 2 Likes |

Prodigytal:In case you don't know, agriculture is still the biggest employer of labour in nigeria. We do not need more farmers. Most of the ones we have already are very poor including cocoa farmers. Ivory Coast is the biggest exporter of cocoa yet most of its farmers are very very poor. Holland has less than 3% of its labour in agriculture yet they have the richest farmers. You most definitely need government if the sector most grow 1 Like |

tesppidd: And you think you made sense. Nigerian GDP was rebased in Jonathan's tenure, and that was when sectors like telecoms, entertainment industry etc were captured. It shot up the GDP thereby drastically reducing the contribution of agriculture. That's d explanation for that sharp decline in Jonathan's era. |

Prodigytal: If agriculture is so profitable, why are entrepreneurs in foreign countries not going en masse into it? Actually, go into agriculture before saying all this. There are way more profitable businesses than agriculture. Don't sell hype. 100 tonnes of Cocoa would require 60 Hectares of land even with improved agricultural practises and hybrid varieties. Do you know the cost of acquiring 60 hectares of land and planting enough to yield 100 tonnes? Do you know the yearly costs in harvesting and getting 100 tonnes of cocoa beans ready? At the end of the day, the profit on that 60 hectares of land might not be more than $15,000 a year. You can earn that in 75 hours as a Blockchain engineer. There is a reason serious countries in the world leave the bulk of the agriculture to poor countries. Agriculture is yesterday's news. Good if you just want to live off the land but it would rarely bring you massive wealth. Areas to go into to get massive wealth include biotech, renewable energy, software development/artificial intelligence, and pharmacy. By the way, I studied Agricultural Economics for my first degree, so I speak from an informed position. Don't sell hype. 5 Likes 1 Share |

Prodigytal: Oga calm down ... Music industry got the blast of momentum when gej was hosted to present awards to musicians by Silverbird group. Some 200million or so. As for agriculture, your government still imports rice, toothpicks, grass for cows.... At this stage, the government is supposed to fund farmers. It's all promise and usual fails. |

smithsammy: We are actually doing well, going by the infograph. You have to pick up your calculator and find out what 30% of 2008 GDP was... Then calculate 20% of current GDP, you will then realise that the information above is slightly misleading. Thanks. |

Like seriously so many things are wrong and worst in this country, Its hard to believe if we could get better no matter who we elect, just today I went to one of those remote area at Ogun state(atan sango)the level of poverty Nigeria farmers are going thru isn't something encouraging at all, imagine!a whole land of cassava farm produce could only generate 3000 after 6months of labour in farming cassava, the rate at which farmers are suffering in this country, its hard to believe if our farming sector could get better, farmers are suffering in the name of farming.... |
