Certification In Marketing by zheroes(m): 4:21am On Sep 07, 2010
Hi guys,

please i really need some good advice here. Am actually marketing for one of the new generation banks, but truth be told its not funny as i have sleepless nights about how to go about meeting my target, yes its great fun when i do but the adrenalin rush preceeding the  success of any target met is something i cant take for too long cos life is too precious, please what certifications do i need to give my career an edge in the marketing field cos thats where i have great interest, something that will enable me work in telecoms, FMCG companies, and the oil sector.

please i mean something beyond the ordinary.

thanks guys.

^^
First you need to get a real marketing job, I think.
What you're doing now is more of sales or account/relationship management. A Marketing job can be anything from product management/marketing, to media and brand communication, corporate communications, events, as well as market planning (which is a bit on the scientific side: market research, market segmentation and modelling).

The FMCGs are the original 'marketers' in the real sense of it, in Nigeria. For oil and gas, maybe downstream, but these days I see very little marketing and a lot of sales (banking approach) from the downstream O&G companies.

Certifications? I think maybe the British CIM (Chartered Institute of Marketing) would be good for you, if you have the discipline to see it through. It will take around 3 years to qualify on average.
