CBN Drops Interest Rates By 50bps To 13.50% by chloride6: 2:47pm On Mar 26, 2019
By James Emejo in Abuja

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Tuesday resolved to reduce the Monetary Policy Rate (MPR), otherwise known as interest rate, by 50 basis points to 13.5 per cent from 14 per cent.

The MPR is the rate at which the CBN lends to commercial banks and often determines the cost of borrowing in the economy.

This is nice

They need to do more than this. You can not industrialize your economy when cbn rate is at 13.5% and banks cost of funds remains above 20%. How do we compete with countries with 1-2% interest rates?

We cannot continue to starve our economy of industry growth, jobs and national growth by keeping mpr rate this high. While on the other creating free money for banks via treasury bills.

This is a very cool and good development.

Slow and steady we will get to the New Nigeria we voted for.

God bless our darling President MUHAMMADU BUHARI and his amiable Vice president Prof Yemi OSIBANJO.

To the NEXT LEVEL we go, a land flowing with milk and honey.

In an inflationary economy like ours, relatively high rates are necessary..

At least, it's a good development. We've been on 14% rate for so long.

commendable but they should make forex available to traders. Traders and importers held the economy and provided needs all those while things were difficult before industrialists saw the changes in the economy and we're attracted because it's now lucrative. Importers shouldn't be dumped in the gutters and BOI should extend loans to traders to cash in from industrialization and not only support existing industries

Do people actually borrow at such exorbitant rates.
Imagine taking out mortgage on rate for a 25 year term!
I’m no economist but I won’t advise anyone to borrow at any rate more than single digit.
