But we pay VAT on electricity and Water. Does that not affect the poor. And if the VAT was increased because of meeting up with the 30,000 minimum wage, what will be left to channel to provision of basic amenities.
It is easier for African institutions to present good pictures in Spoken and written English but we never experience it in reality.

there is no way an increase in VAT wouldn't have effect on prices of almost all goods and services in Nigeria where there isn't a price control system.. it's like a ripple effect ; even those that are not directly affected would see it as an opportunity to increase the prices of their goods and services and there's nothing u, me and d govt can do about it. this is Nigeria , need they b reminded

Vatable products that have effect on the poor is much more than the non vatable sir.

Virtually everyday consumption products are vatable

Increase in vat at this time is wrong considering the fact that several families are poor.

And what do you use to build the road if not technology? You think it's the hoes and cultlasses your mother is using in her village farm work? If you have the technology without good roads how do you think you will look like before the rest of the world?

The Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) yesterday explained that Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax primarily designed to support poor people, and not to create hardship for them.

"VAT is not charged on all medical and pharmaceutical products. It is not charged on basic food items. It is not charged on books and educational materials. It is not charged on baby products, fertilizers, locally produced agricultural and veterinary medicine. VAT is not charged on farming machinery and farming transportation equipment"

You don't give businesses the enabling environment to thrive, and you want to drain the little ones that are managing to break even.

No offense, but I think you don't really know what VAT is. Once anyone whether poor or rich buys a product that is not exempted, the person has already paid the tax. And the thing there is that the same amount the poor man is paying as VAT is the same the rich man is paying, regardless of the price they bought the product for. You buy from the market, a rich man shops in a mull, prices for items may be higher in the mull but VAT remains the same.

No offence taken, I know what VAT is, my comment wasn't based on VAT charged on consumables.

Its been over 4years buhari got into power. Uptil now no light, no work, poverty is ravaging many people and some retard is increasing Vat on goods. Thereby causing inflation.

Why don't the government put a policy which states if you earn more than 1million you must pay Vat tax than be taxing people who don't have.
