Yes. Because any legal resident or citizen knows he/she needs to file for your visa and to marry you. Only really serious person gets into it.
Living in America, you will see it's easy to date but not easy to convince to marry you. Men don't want to be financially responsible, women are very independent and don't want to marry either. Everybody wants to have fun. People who has a stability, look for the same in the partner. Even dating here, people does some research, if you are legal, it shows your background, criminal record, income, education, etc. If you are illegal, it doesn't show anything or maybe some mistakes in your history. Nobody wants to marry an unknown person or maybe a criminal. Financially the marriage in America is very risky, even credit score counts. So undocumented or illegal person, maybe could find a very old person or a drug user for being used. Good marriage is not easy to find because in American society you are not good yourself. We usually look in a 1st date if you have a car, a house and a job. Marrying a foreigner is risky, you have nothing and if there is a divorce, you get half of mine. Everybody knows undocumented or illegal foreigners use Americans. I am not saying nobody is marrying but it's hard to find somebody willing to do it. A little bit more easy is for a foreign woman (just because many American women don't want to marry and take care of a man) but a foreign man is not a good catch here. fkj950ax: Hello House, I have a B1/B2 Visa used once for a holiday, 3 weeks and back in Nigeria. Now I have a gig Stateside that I will be paid. It will be a 5 week-long project. Isn't that violating the terms of the B1/B2? Is it possible to come up at renewal time? You know you can't work on B1/B2 and staying in U.S for 5 weeks is not really a big deal if you have a good reason to back it up. 1 Like |

All I know is that for everyone that goes and doesn't return, it makes it harder for the next person. Yes and No. In order not to sound exposing one of the weak loop-holes of the US Immigration laws an Undocumented Immigrant can marry an American and adjust his/her undocumented status to become legal if the American petitions for a green card for the person and is approved. Now for the highlighted statement...unfortunately that might end up being the case. |

highvibration: approved b1/b2. Lagos embassy. and i have to say, I couldn't have done it without this thread.
vo: where are you going to? me: university name, town, state vo; what are you going for? me: i was invited to present a paper at 'university name' at 'conference name' vo: whats that? me; i explained the conference in more detail vo; how long are you going for? me: 6 days vo: have you left nigeria before? me: yes, been to a few countries in europe. spain, netherlands, italy. ive been across africa, morocco, mauritius, etc. I love to travel vo: what do you do? me; i work as a consultant on XYZ project vo: how much do you earn me; 850k a month vo: are you married? me: no vo: any kids? me: no vo: tell me about your paper me: i ramble for about 30 seconds. (he is nodding his head as if its enough abeg) vo: i'm going to approve your visa.... (hands over pink slip)
observations/advice: 1. i wasn't asked for any documents. in my application as I was going for a conference, i selected only B1 ( i got that tip from here) 2. i prepared my questions and answers and rehearsed (nairaland tip). even yesterday i read the thread and saw a lady answered her question immediately with the name of the course, venue, state. so i updated my answers so my response will be concise (another tip from here) 3. i didnt hesitate with my answers (the benefit of rehearsing) . too many people were saying 'ehn?', meanwhile me far away could hear the questions 3. don't ramble. be confident. don't lie on your application. i've been refused over 10yrs ago and even though i didnt do biometrics, I mentioned it. (nairaland tip) LIES WILL MAKE YOU NERVOUS. 4. don't engage in chatchat with people. all that 'naija is bad/they arent giving visa's etc etc. it ruins your energy. be silent and focus on why you are there (my personal advice) 5. they were approving and refusing people. the vo i met refused a lady for student visa because the course date was in the past. he advised her to get a new i20 from the uni. he refused a mama who couldn't explain what she did there her last visit for 2mths. they aren't demons. they have their reasons for either refusals or approvals.
Good luck to all. I hope this helps.

I speak and write 7 languages, I am not feeling like to impress anybody in this chat forum, I write the way I like. Technical Writing is my forte (I translated and wrote so many books for the Air Force in different languages), not good in a simple chat. Yet Nigerians have a heavy accent and are not good in grammar but I am not complaining, it's OK. Im not against your other opinions on here, but the accent part, who or what makes the American accent the official and acceptable accent of the world? You have yours,we have ours! Before i got used to foreign accents,i could barely hear what people in Asia or North America were saying, but i never complain or think im better because i understand we’re just ‘different’ The amount of people that speaks fluent English in Asia on all of my visits to the continent are countable! All of their English is broken! And since we’re all profiling strangers on here! Lol,if im to profile you! You’re not Nigerian,i picked that up from your previous comments/thought process and definitely not White-American! Probably mexican,European in the United States! 1 Like 1 Share |
