Guy there are 2 ways to having ur fone back
1: This method require expert technique and its not free
2: This is free but u gona lose every data on your through a special reset codez.
If interested in number 2 then here is it:
Type *#7370# from the standby
screen while your phone is on.
It will ask for the lock code which is
12345 unless you have previously
changed it. Make sure you do this
right, because if you do it too many
times the wrong way you can lock
up your phone.

From what i understand its like u have been using the fone for some time b4 this problem. This problem not upgrade but contact problem ur sim card is not making good contact. There are simple things you can do.
1. Get a clean white cloth with methylated spirit clean that sim spot. make sure u donot pour the spirit in to your fone.
2. Ensure that ur sim card is firmly placed in its casing.
3. Try a different sim from ur own sim to be sure ur sim is not bad.
4. If after all this and it doesnt work u will need expert input where they may have to work on the portion that carries the sim.

Guy there are 2 ways to unlock ur fone of which free unlock is not among them.
1. Online unlock : here u forward ur imei number and they forward ur unlock code costs around 10-50 dollars.
2. Box method: This is done here in Nigeria e.g computer village
