The attention of the management of Askamaya Hotel & Suites has been drawn to a disturbing video made by a customer that was posted on the internet. Askamaya Hotel and Suites fervently declare that this individual is spewing lies and falsehood about the events that occurred on March 28, 2019. We intend to set the story straight in this response.

Based on the Manager’s account coupled with CCTV footage from the Hotel premises, it all started around 6:00am, when a group of customers ordered 11 plates of food and refused to pay the bill claiming that the chicken from one of the plates was stale therefore they will not pay for every single plate. The Hotel Management rushed in to attend to their claims to see how to resolve the situation as the customers were becoming violent. All attempts to reason with them failed as they grew uncontrollable, particularly the fat one bellowing with his buttocks spilling out of his jeans as he repeatedly kept shouting he is the “baddest cultist from Ikorodu”. In a riotous manner, they began destroying the Hotel properties and threatened the armed Policemen on duty with a broken glass cup and even attempted to drag his weapon away from him. Subsequently a brawl ensued. As a result, injuries were sustained by the “cultists” and the hotel staff in attempt to subdue them. The MD was alerted to the situation and as a kind gesture to start mending fences with these men, took the two that sustained injuries to Peninsula Hospital and paid their medical bills totaling N70, 000.

We assumed the matter had ended, but lo and behold later that afternoon these men returned with more of their friends and a fellow in Nigerian Army uniform who immediately unleashed mayhem on Hotel staff and on an unsuspecting customer. The Management immediately called the men of Ajah Divisional Police station to prevent any further chaos. The Policemen arrested the “cultists” and warned the soldier to stay away. At the Police station the management insisted on pressing charges against the culprits for damages they caused on persons and properties of the Hotel. However, the alleged cultists admitted their mistakes and “blamed it on alcohol and drugs” for their untoward behavior. They pleaded for mercy and finally agreed to pay for the food and part of the damages done to the Hotel’s properties.
