Japan's Toyota Motor Corp says it will allow other automakers to use 23,740 of its hybrid-vehicle patents in a bid to drive industry uptake of hybrids cars as well as fending off the challenge of all-battery electric vehicles. What this means is that Toyota will supply fellow automakers with hybrid vehicle techs and components such as fuel cells, electric motors, power control units (PCU), system controls, power converters, engine transaxles, chargers and batteries used in its lower-emissions hybrid vehicles, for free. The patents will be available for free use until 2030. Toyota had previously licensed its hybrid technology to automakers like Nissan, Mazda and Subaru. The Japanese automaker is currently the most prolific maker and seller of hybrid vehicles in the world, with about 80 percent of the market. Since the debut of its first hybrid car, the Prius in 1997 , the automaker has sold more than 13 million hybrid vehicles. It currently offers hybrid versions of seven different models including three types of Prius. Toyota's move to share its technologies with other automakers underlines its belief that hybrids are an effective alternative to all-electric vehicles, given a fuel efficiency roughly double that of petrol powered cars, lower cost and that they do not need charging infrastructure. https://autojosh.com/toyota-to-share-its-patented-hybrid-car-tech-with-other-automakers/ 4 Likes 1 Share |

I love Toyota for many reasons: Their vehicles are highly reliable that explains the reason why commercial fleet operators, transport companies and even terrorist organizations like ISIS, Boko Haram etc prefer Toyota Brands. Research has shown that their vehicles are not only the fastest selling automobile brand in the world but also they have the highest resale value. Research has proved that more than 80 percent of their products manufactured more than 25 years ago are still on the road. Hence the slogans like "A Toyota drives forever" Here in Nigeria and other African countries you can still see one baba in remote villages hustling with Toyota Brands like Dyna, Hiace, Liteace, Coaster, Hilux, Celica, Corona, Corolla of 70s and 80s. 26 Likes 7 Shares

Not a bad transfer/share of technology...... But if you are buying a hybrid vehicle, ensure you have adequate warranty on the hybrid technology............. 1 Like |

Toyota is a leading automobile brand with many accolades: Corrola is a best seller model of all competing brand with over 40milliom units sold as at 2014. The Toyota pickups especially Hilux (called Tacoma in North America) is renowned for having excellent reliability, not to mention equally strong resale value. If you want a compact truck that will live forever, the Hilux/Tacoma is impossible to beat. https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/the-most-reliable-new-trucks-on-the-market In 1999, Toyota reported the production of its 100-millionth vehicle. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Nice... would rather opt for this than a N4m or N5m 400kg electric car battery vehicle that fake battery would cloud the market. |

darkcaesar03360: Maintenance of Benz and BMW is too high, if there is no guaranty you will have sustained steady flow of income to maintain Benz then selling your kidney is a waste. Most celebrities and yahoo buys displaying Benz will sell them in the long-run because of sensor and maintenance issues and don't forget Benz have low resale value compare to Toyota brands. 5 Likes |

Luvinghubby:you just told yourself a lie and you believed it. Maintenance in Benz and BMW are almost none existing. I'm not talking of the regular maintenance of changing oil and the rest. Benz would go a long time before you start worryring about reoccurring maintenance of body parts and failing engine. That being said, i believe the maintenance any new vehicle is almost none existing too. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Hmmm....smart move by Toyota. Who gives away their patented technology for free? Toyota is trying to push more hybrid in the market.... to distract consumers from moving directly to all electric. 3 Likes |

Jiang: Electric cars are gaining sales .... a very small percent of the market share... but increasing. The world is adapting... but that takes time. Wasn't combustion engine cars once at this stage like 100 years ago?... and eventually the whole world adapted to it and moved away from horse drawn carriages? 2 Likes 1 Share |
Re: Toyota To Share Its Patented Hybrid Car Tech With Other Automakers by Nobody: 7:21am On Apr 08, 2019 |
Originalsly: You can't compare a carriage & a car, if you know the amount of food a single horse consumes, shelter , medication, & gets tired after a while. A car is much more cheaper & comfortable. But electric cars are expensive, requires lots of maintenance. it takes a minimum of 30minutes before getting fully charged, that's a monumental waste of time during long distance travels 1 Like |
