On Sunday, Rwanda began a 100 days mourning to commemorate the 1994 genocide that nearly brought her to ruin. If not for the somber mood of the country, no one would have ever believed that Rwanda actually went through a dark moment that claimed the lives of over 800,000 people who were mostly Tutsi and moderate Hutu, because she has left the bitter experience behind. As a matter of fact, it is no longer legal to identify as either a Hutu, Tutsi or Twa. Everybody is a Rwandan. Rwanda is now a family, to paraphrase the words of her president, Paul Kagame. Significantly, this new unity is partly responsible for the fast development of a country that was hitherto on the brink of collapse. https://qwenu.com/2019/04/08/the-25th-commemoration-of-the-rwandan-genocide-a-few-lessons-for-nigeria/ |
