FG Procures 77 New Innosen Vehicles For FRSC Operations by cyrilamx(m): 6:26pm On Apr 13, 2019 |
The federal government has procured 77 new operational vehicles for Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) to ensure safety and security of the citizens. The vehicles are 74 units of Innoson IVM 4×2 Double Cabin Pick-Ups and three ambulances. Speaking on behalf of President Muhammadu Buhari at the Commissioning of the vehicles in Abuja, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha said the development was aimed at ensuring safety and accelerated economic growth of Nigeria. He assured of the federal government’s commitment to continue to provide all the necessary logistics, legal and financial support to the Corps. “I’m glad to state that with the establishment of FRSC in 1988, Nigeria’s profile in road safety administration and traffic management has continued to record enviable improvements. It is for this reason that President Buhari is usually inclined to never spare resources in support of the laudable accomplishments of the Corps.” In his welcome address, the Corps Marshal, FRSC, Dr Bobboye Oyeyemi said the procurement of the 74 patrol vehicles and three ambulances reveal the sincere commitment of the federal government to ensuring that Nigeria lives up to the UN conventions on road traffic and other international obligations it has assented to. He said the development will ease implementation and achievement of FRSC Strategic Goals for the years 2019 among which is the reduction of road crashes by 20 percent and fatality by 25 percent. Oyeyemi stated that each time the Corps injects more vehicles into its fleet, its operational prowess is enhanced, noting that enforcement improved by about 34 percent and motorists cautioned rose by 37 percent when the federal government procured 400 vehicles for the Corps. He said in order to ensure that our road culture becomes one that permeats a friendlier motoring environment through improved monitoring mechanism, four critical road corridors of the nation’s 32 are currently being given deserved priority attention for which corridor commanders have appointed to add impetus to the Corps vigilance. He noted, “For the purpose of consolidating the Cobra Squad Operation in the FCT which debuted in June 2017 targeted at reprobating traffic offenders who commit life threatening offences, the Squad will be boosted with 15 of the new patrol vehicles with compliment of two ambulances with special focus on City Gate-Airport road, Giri-Zuba-Kubwa road and terminating at AYA. The FRSC boss further disclosed that in the past one year (April 2018-April 2019), the Cobra Squad has cautioned 13,531 motorists, arrested 5,111 offenders for committing 5,501 offences and 4,420 of the offenders we’re recommended for emotional psychology evaluation at relevant government medical facilities to ascertain their stability of mind to continue to drive on Nigeria highways. https://leadership.ng/2019/04/12/fg-procures-77-new-vehicles-for-frsc-operations/amp/ |
