Good Girl:

Is there a way Nairobi can be made to develop without being turned into a concrete city?

In as much as I love to see upcoming houses and real estate, I would love to see some green as well. I recently went to visit a friend of mine who had moved into a new neighbourhood and was quite saddened by the concrete structures in what was once a leafy area. The WHOLE estate is concrete; hakuna hata ka-cactus kanaonekana jamani?

That's why I sometimes envy the folks who reside in Meru, Kericho, Embu, Kakamega, Eldoret, etc. They get to experience fresh air unlike Nairobians (unless of course unaishi Karen ama Runda. tongue) .

That will depend on the city council, they are planting trees but they could do more like provisions of public parks in the suburbs etc.

Lol.Ati masai wa bacon na butter! grin

The truth is most Africans(apart from the masai and their cousins)  are scared shitless in the wild. The irony is that Europeans if allowed would try to pet the freaking lion lol.I am not sleeping in a tent either, thank god they have options.Lions rarely kill people though, hippos and snakes are the biggest killers respectively.

Kenya Defense Forces Denied Opportunity to Become the Most Powerful Regional Army

Kenyan army soldiers sit in their armored vehicles next to the white sand shore of the seaside town of Bur Garbo, Somalia.

February 23 | Posted by David Goldman | Geopolitics, Intelligence News, Military Intelligence

Kenya defense forces have killed more than a thousand Al-Shabaab troops, captured strategic towns formerly held by the militants, trained and positioned Somali government forces in liberated areas. Al-Shabaab is weak, on the run, and confused.
It lacks the basic requirements such as leadership and money to make inroads in its quest to remain in power. South Somalia recently was Al-Shabaabs stronghold and economic nerve center.
US and Ethiopian forces failed miserably besides losing their best soldiers and equipment to the Al-Shabaab. Kenya defense forces, a untested army as US and countries across the world pointed out, routed the militants, one town after another using the most unique strategy ever used to counter an army run by terrorists.
Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni was quoted referring the KDF as a career army that could perish in Somalia. Ethiopian security experts laughed off Kenya defense forces attempt on Somalia. Indeed many security, military and intelligence experts and groups were sure KDF would languish in death in South Somalia, the hometown of the Hawiye-run Al-Shabaab.
The Indian Ocean Newsletter, a reputed intelligence and geopolitical publication even exaggerated KDF was bogged down besides projecting they could not sustain the war.
Other sections of intelligence and military issues media explained how KDF had no exit strategy besides hinting rehatting KDF to AMISOM, a very weak outfit, was their exit strategy due to the expensive costs of running the war.
Today,KDF has captured both economic, infrastructural, and technical capability centers of Al-Shabaab besides destroying the militants training and bomb assembly facilities.
However, the loss KDF has suffered is the ultimate denial to storm Kismayu and liberate Somalia. While the ramifications of storming the port town would be catastrophic due to civilian deaths, Kismayu is the only strategic objective that could have baptized the Kenya defense forces as ‘The Most Powerful Army in the Region.’
This was an opportunity that even the National Intelligence Security Service failed to analyze and make use of. It could have given Kenya an image of a regional military and geopolitical power.

Had NSIS(The National Security Intelligence Service ) used this idea, Kenya’s position in the global politik would have significantly soared up.
Investors would have rushed to the country for it would have a repute and capability to defend itself and its neighbors from aggression and economic sabotage with brute  force and success.
President Kibaki would earn his moment as the most powerful president, the man who commands the most powerful and capable army in the region, but that wont be.
2500 KDF officers will be joining AMISOM under a Ugandan commander which insults KDF high integrity and track record of military leadership achievements.
AMISOM Generals have failed to gain ground outside Mogadishu, they have lost troops in hundreds due to poor planning, routine syndrome, poorly trained soldiers, and incompetence in strategy execution.
KDF cannot perform under such leadership and should be prepared to suffer heavy losses just like the rest of these armies. Any indication of high risks besides regular heavy causalities will quickly demoralize KDF troops under AMISOM hence give the international chance to look KDF down the nose.
By joining AMISOM, KDF becomes part of a failed administration and discredits its position as a super army, either they work on their own or jointly with AMISOM forces.
African armies have not defended let alone won a war, but KDF was just days away from making the most significant difference in Kenya, African, and global history, defeat and completely wipe out an Al-Qaeda backed Islamist army and liberate the Somali people.
US and its allies including Britain and France did nothing but work hard to ensure KDF will not get the glory, rather must disappear from the global spotlight as soon as possible through arrangements such as AMISOM.
There will be no glory for KDF after AMISOM.

Kenyan army soldier Nicholas Munyanya, wearing a helmet on which is written in Kiswahili "Tea in Kismayo", referring to a key strategic Somali town under the control of al-Shabab, checks his ammunition belt near the town of Dhobley, currently under control by Kenyan military and Somali government forces, in Somalia Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012. Kenya's military has been fighting inside Somalia in an ongoing offensive against militant group al-Shabab since October, when Somali gunmen carried out several kidnappings in Kenya

Kenya Army KDF Achievements in Somalia Dwarfs Major Armies Capabilities

Quote  Posted by David James | Geopolitics, Intelligence News, Military Intelligence

Kenya Defense Forces have excelled where American troops failed to make a foot hold on territory. American troops invaded Somalia but were killed.

Ethiopian forces with logistical and military facilities support from the United States gained ground in a week but pulled back in frights as they were attacked and Killed by Islamic Courts troops.

No foreign army has managed a foothold in Somalia but Kenya Defense Forces have and this achievement is not going down well with powerful countries such as the US and Britain.

KDF is using a unique strategy to fight and win. They eliminate the enemy, scout, and police the liberated area besides bringing in local administration to assert its authority in the liberated area. Two KDF has TFG forces doing the policing and scouting work.

The purpose of this strategy is to preempt insurgency and guerilla rebirth. Interestingly, Kenya defense forces help demine the liberated areas, de-militarize, arrest elements of enemy, and most importantly, seal the liberated area besides ensuring arms are confiscated.

This ensures Al-Shabaab does not regroup and regain ground. The strategy paves way for lasting peace and social integration.

Military intelligence shows Kenya defense forces are using logistics as a weapon to win the war and sure, they are.

Al-Shabaab have ran away from the south and now are regrouping far north near the Ethiopian forces. Al-Shabaab has killed several Ethiopian troop but have been pushed out of Baidoa.

Of course, they are now worried and disorganized after losing leaders, equipment, and troops to KDF. This means KDF has done the dirty work for Ethiopian troops and AMISOM in Mogadishu.
