Probably, if you tune your TV to Aljazeera, the news of Volodymyr Zelenskyy – the 41-year-old comedian, who defeated an incumbent president to win Ukraine’s presidential election, will not elude you. Significantly, this is not the first time that a young lad would win a presidential election, in fact, the likes of Emmanuel Macron and Justin Trudeau have achieved similar landmark hitherto. However, that of Volodymyr has sent a shock wave around the world, particularly because he seemed to be a dark horse with no political resumé.

Meanwhile, the same feat cannot be reproduced in Nigeria at least not any time soon based on the worldview of the electorate. If Volodymyr Zelenskyy were to find himself in a gerontocratic system like ours, he would not have won the presidential election.
