The purpose of an exhaust system is to make your car's emissions less harmful before they are transferred out of the exhaust pipe. If you have an exhaust system that does not work properly, the toxic gases from the emissions will enter your vehicle and threaten the lives of everyone there. Since these deadly gases are odorless and invisible, you will not see them or notice them. You will simply inhale the gases as you slowly drive to your death. That is why you must learn to recognize the symptoms of a malfunctioning exhaust system and then repair it at your local auto service shop immediately.

Below are Five common symptoms of a bad exhaust system:

1.
A noise that becomes stronger

When you start the engine and you hear louder noise from the engine, it can come from a leaking exhaust system. Remember that there is a seal between the exhaust manifold piping and the engine block. This joint is constantly heated
and cooled, as is the piping. So, if you do not see a crack or leak on the piping, check the seal for a defect.

2.
Vibrating gas pedal

Every time there is a tiny leak, the car vibrates. But if the leak is dominant, the vibrations will also be much greater. You will begin to notice these vibrations coming from the accelerator pedal. If you do nothing, the vibrations will be felt on the steering wheel. Finally, the floorboards will vibrate.

3.
Poor fuel efficiency

If you notice that your vehicle needs more fuel than usual, it may be due to a leaking exhaust system. These leaks complicate the task of your engine.

4.
Difficult acceleration

Place your foot on the accelerator and pay attention to noises that do not sound good. If you hear sounds that sound like leaking exhaust, you obviously have a problem. However, it's hard for most people to tell the difference between engine sounds and exhaust sounds. In addition, strange engine noise could also be due to other types of engine problems. Use this technique only if you have already encountered another symptom and try to check your suspicions.

5.
Unusual smell

If you have a leaky collector, you will notice a very strong smell in the air. If the smell persists, it is clear that you do not want to breathe very long in the harmful exhaust. Therefore, take your vehicle to your local auto repair shop immediately and have them check the problem and then resolve it. Do not take any chances with carbon monoxide because it can be deadly.

NOTABLE POINTS

Quick response to solve the exhaust leak can prevent excess cost and gradual loss of life,it is wise to continually check periodically to keep it in good working condition.
