The Inspector General of Police, IGP Mohammed Adamu, who spoke during the quarterly Northern Traditional Rulers’ Council meeting held on Tuesday in Kaduna, revealed that 1,071 people were killed, while 685 were kidnapped in first quarter of 2019. He further revealed that the crime statistics showed that between January and April, at least 685 persons were kidnapped across the country.

According to the IGP,  767 out of the 1,071 people killed were from the North.The North-West topped the death list with 436; North-Central came second with 250; while the South-South geopolitical zone recorded 130 deaths during the period under review. 

He added that Zamfara State with 203 murder cases topped the national prevalence rate, Kaduna State followed closely with 112 reported cases while 90 people were killed in Benue State. According to him, most of the murder cases recorded in the North are linked to banditry and communal violence.

even after reducing the figures officially and considering that many of such cases are never reported... this is very terrible
