Presidential Race Declaration: Gej Caught In Plagiarism by Nobody: 1:06am On Sep 20, 2010
SaharaReporters, New York
A day after President Goodluck Jonathan formally declared his bid for re-election, Saharareporters has discovered that a part of the speech he read at the official launch of his campaign was substantially lifted from a 2006 address given by former Vice President Abubakar Atiku when he announced his entry into the 2007 presidential election.

Mr. Jonathan yesterday announced his presidential bid at Eagle Square, Abuja in a ceremony graced by crowds mobilized by state governors, featuring masquerades, musicians and half-naked men.

In the 30-paragraph speech delivered with the aid of a teleprompter, amid loud cheers from his supporters, Jonathan said, “Our country is at the threshold of a new era; an era that beckons for a new kind of leadership; a leadership that is uncontaminated by the prejudices of the past; a leadership that is committed to change; a leadership that reinvents government, to solve the everyday problems that confront the average Nigerian.”

The rhetoric resonated with the crowd, which cheered him on. The crowd was obviously unaware that the paragraph was a plagiarized version of an old speech by Atiku. The former vice president used similar phrases in a speech he read at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja on November 25, 2006.

In paragraph nine of his four-year-old speech, Atiku declared: “Today, as we stand on the threshold of a new era Nigeria requires a new kind of leadership, a leadership committed to this change process.

Where did Atiku copy his speech from?
I can bet my life that punk who does not know how to switch on a laptop is a dumb-ass.
He can never write the speech credited to him.

There is so much jealousy over GEJ's beautiful speech!
While GEJ spoke to the soul of the country, IBB's speech was like a malevolent odour; it was something like, "Nigerians will forgive June 12," "I did not kill Dele Giwa!" What a fcker! cry cry cry cry

All these people talking about Plagiarism. Do they know what  Plagiarism is?

Is plagiarism not the same thing as '' COPY and PASTE '' ?
Re: Presidential Race Declaration: Gej Caught In Plagiarism by naso2(m): 11:29am On Sep 20, 2010
There is nothing that has never been said before all you have to do is to coin it you own way. This is simply a case of mere coincidence of thought within the confnes of permissible originality in academic writing. Obama, Clinton, Bush, Blair and other world leaders and their speechwriters frequently review several famous speeches and quotes for parallel incidences in design and delivery.

The North Introduced it and GEJ is learning from, them.

Enough of allegations without proofs.

How on Earth are these two statements "soooooooo close"?

You see what am saying.
Plagiarism Is Not COPY and PASTE my brother.
Plagiarism is copy and paste without Citing
You can Copy and paste any amount of words as far as it cited .
Secondly it depends on the percentage of words that you directly lift without putting quotation mark.
This was a speech that wasn't written but just spoken. How can GEJ cite something was not directly paraphrased or quoted.
Those two statements are just coincidence I tell you. Look at the length of the statements and compare what they have in common.
Well

Well
if you look at both statement from a logical view, you will agree that the translation and interpretation looks similar irrespective of whether one is long or the other is short.the opening sentence are alike while jonathan's other part were further modified but still not from from the point in Atiku's word.

I believe plagiarism does not come into play; research does. When you get your text from different sources -- including your own effort -- it is called research. Plagiarism is more closer to regurgitation.

What if research takes you into another person's work without getting the person's consent ?

The highlighted clauses are the only things 100% common to both speechs. I have googled the clauses to see how often they have been used b/4, these are my findings:

I agree with you on this (I typed dat in a hurry coz I was listening to the testimony of a friend's dad who just came back from the kidnapper's den. Horrible tale!). @ Topic. To write a speech, research must lead you to previous speeches. Moreover, I think Sahara Reporters are just making a mounatin out of a mole hill.
Re: Presidential Race Declaration: Gej Caught In Plagiarism by slap1(m): 6:41pm On Sep 20, 2010
And, please, what percentage of GEJ's speech was made up by 'Atiku's speech'?
Re: Presidential Race Declaration: Gej Caught In Plagiarism by Beaf: 7:14pm On Sep 20, 2010
Can you guys imagine that dunce Atiku, attempting to big himself up that a PhD has copied his work? Another dream in vain! cry cry cry cry cry cry
They really say, "anything can happen in 9ja;" thank God GEJ is here to change that crap.

Words may mean nothing but the intention carries a lot of weight cuz it really looks like jonathan portrays what was ordinarily an Atiku idea.
''I HAVE A DREAM '' and '' YES WE CAN '' are four and three worded sentences which are synonymous with Martin and Obama respectively,so any modification of whatsoever to these sentences amounts to plagiarism irrespective of the percentage or weight of such new sentence.
Re: Presidential Race Declaration: Gej Caught In Plagiarism by slap1(m): 8:13pm On Sep 20, 2010
If the sentences: " the threshold of a new era" and "a new kind of leadership" are the only 'guilty' words in GEJ's speech, don't you think it smacks of mischief-making for Sahara Reporters to accuse him of plagiarism? They should go get a life on the double!
