MOUNTAINS AND MOLEHILLS

Read Romans 8:32

He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all—how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things?

If we are ever tempted to doubt whether God really cares or whether he can really accomplish what he promises, we can’t do much better than get this verse into our heads. It is a classic example of a 'greater to lesser' argument.

God did the unbelievably hard, painful thing by allowing his beloved Son Jesus to bear our guilt on himself on the cross. You couldn’t have picked a more challenging thing for him to do. What was most precious to him was sent to earth to suffer and die. And Jesus was willing to do so. This is evidence of how much God thinks of us, the lengths he is prepared to go to have us in his forever family.

Paul’s logic then follows. With all the various difficulties and threats we face can we not trust God to look after us? Having done the major thing, the truly difficult thing, can he not be trusted to do the relatively easier things? If he sent Jesus to die for me, can I not trust that he will help me live for Jesus? If he has met the overriding big need in my life, will he not also meet all my lesser needs?

All the circumstances facing us may seem overwhelming, life might even appear bleak. But handling those circumstances is a piece of cake for the God who offered his Son to be sacrificed for our sake. Whatever faces us is nothing compared to what faced God as he watched his Son die for us. He has dealt with the mountain, so we can assume he can deal with the molehills.

Blessings
