Am from the eastern part of Nigeria, IMO state to be precise, currently an oil well head was discovered in my place and it happened that the pipe has to passed through our land, that's were my "late " father build our new home before his dimisal . We have been informed to be at alert as the "shell oil company " are coming any moment to value the properties there and pay us.
The problem is that, ever since that incident, many young men has been coming to our house claiming the are "PROPERTY VALUER " and the will help us to avoid cheating from "shell company ".some are even promising to give us money. Then I asked what I will do for them,
The said the only need me to sign POWER OF ATTORNEY for them as my PROPERTY VALUER.
One even promised to visit me in school and see me of which when I asked what actually his interest was, he told me he needs the job and I will have to give him 10% only of whatever be the pay of the properties(both land, house, economic tress)AND Also PROMISED TO PAY ME ANY AMOUNT I WANT SO LONG I WILL SIGN THE POWER OF ATTORNEY FOR HIM .
My father when alive do tell me something special is in that land where is building but sometimes I don't understand him.
Now am confused, some people are saying I should get a property valuer why some said there service is not needed.
Who else had experience this,,

Op, I’ve not been in this situation before but my little advice is, before you sign any document, please be extra careful. They might be calling you a village boy when you’re trying to be extra careful, tell them bluntly, yes that you’re a village boy!!

Wait and see what the oil company offer will be then simply say....:" i thought it would be worth 5times as much, let me get a property valuer and get back to you".... Now that's the time to use common sense and with this number, shop around for the BEST property values around, not some quack deluded E-diot who will just want to seal the deal to enrich himself.

Don't do ANYTHING before you receive oil company's offer....

My friend dont sign anything and do not allow them to see the documents..these guys can even steal your document..abeg wait for the company to come buy your land, if possible do not sell your land..lease it to shell

again..i thought any property that they find oil becomes automatically owned by the govt. it is possible that those guys pressuring you to sign are govt workers with first hand information.. dont be deceived by them

My last advice OP. Hold this advice well. It is whom people trust the most in oil deals that set them up. And do not invest too much information to a single party. Do not. Choose a next of kin. Complete the land documents. Look for banks that secures documents. Keep it there for safe keep. Choose your next of kin to keep it further secured. If you know, you know.

I'm a boy but I'm intelligent beyond human understanding. the guy needs to be prayerful or grounded natively coz attacks will be coming any moment from now..... oil is government property and I know vividly they won't pay less than a billion naira. note oil is life time investment I repeat do not sell for peanut, 40b or 400 billion should be starting amount let them negotiate well and wait for oil comp to come

Don't sign anything. You should not allow any of them know your school or where you live, you must be security concious before they kill you. You need a valuer to value the property, yes, but don't pick any of them that have shown interest to do it. Also, when you sell the property, try and be discreet with the amount.
