The Abia State Sports council has announced the appointment of Hon Eziuche Ubani as the Chairman of the Abia Athletics Association with effect from 5th April 2019

The appointment is already stirring up excitement in the Sports Community in Abia state and the southeast, because of Hon Ubani’s tremendous contribution to sports development in Abia State.


Eziuche Ubani was Editor of The Comet on Sunday, Editor of ThisDay on Sunday and Editor-at-Large of ThisDay. He was media adviser to Ghali Umar Na'Abba, speaker of Nigeria’s House of Representatives, Before becoming a member of the 6th and 7th session of The National Assembly.


Hon Eziuche Ubani who served as The Chairman of The House committee on Media, and also Chairman of the committee on Climate Change is currently The Abia State Commissioner for Works, and equally the Chairman of Saturn Communications Ltd the Owners of Magic FM 102.9 ABA the organization that has been responsible for The ABA HALF MARATHON Since 2013, the half-marathon has been the fastest growing standard distance race in the country . The Aba Township Half Marathon was single handedly organized by Magic 102.9 FM. With technical support from the Athletics Federation of Nigeria and approval by the International Association of Athletics Federation.

Apart from his pioneer role in initiating the Aba Marathon , He has also been responsible in sponsoring Atheletes from Abia state to other Sporting events like the Lagos City Marathon and the Okpekpe Road Race in Edo State . Considering his love for sports development, his commitment and extensive contacts it is believed that this appointment marks a new phase in Sports development in Abia State
