The Chairman of the Ekiti State Local Government Service Commission, Mr. Samuel Abejide, has called on workers across the 16 Local Government Areas of the state to harness the abundant human and material resources at the grassroots for the overall development of the state.
Irohinoodua received a media release indicating that Abejide gave the charge to top government functionaries in the 16 local governments at a maiden interactive meeting held at the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) secretariat, Ado Ekiti.
He reiterated the decision of his leadership to reposition the local government system in the discharge of its responsibilities for effective and efficient service delivery at the grassroots.
Abejide stated that all hands must be on deck in the tasks of "reclaiming our land and restoring our values", adding that his administration was poised to restore the lost glory of the local government system in the state. At the meeting also attended by five commissioners in the commission, namely Wole Olujobi, Dele Oloje, Abiodun Deosun, Bisi Dada and Mariam Ogunlade, among other top government functionaries, the chairman who thanked Governor Kayode Fayemi for appointing him and other commissioners into the commission, said that he would leave no stone unturned in embarking on programmes and policies that would enhance the career growth of the staff.
He pledged to attend to staff promotion and other sundry personnel issues as and when due, even as he counselled staff to shun partisan politics.
Noting that indiscipline had hampered development in the local governments, Abejide warned that government would not tolerate absenteeism and abscondment from duties.
"The practice whereby staff work elsewhere outside the state and only return to collect their salaries on pay day will no longer be tolerated. "Mechanism will be put in place to check the trend because it deprives the genuine and hard working staff to enjoy the full benefits of their hard work and loyalty to the service," he explained.
He assured the staff that efforts were on top gear to provide conducive working environment for them to enhance their productivity. Responding, on behalf of the coordinating directors, Mr Tunde Arowolaju, who is the Coordinating Director of Ekiti West Local Government, pledged the support and cooperation of the staff in achieving the objectives of the commission.

He added that efforts should be made to boost the internally revenue of the local governments to enhance rapid development at the grassroots.
