The richest town by Alonge Benjamin Original poem by Ifeoluwa Phillip Graveyard becomes richer 'Cause there lies rich potentials Her graves, shelving unread stories Great destinies devoured in her bellies I wander her graves in my thought There I find golds Diamonds and bronzes Both young and old Gems of all races Yea, every gold particled into dusts Diamond corroded into rusts All gems, winnowed from Life's crust In her are instruments of healing never played Grammy award winning songs never sang Myriad words of solutions not spoken All letters, wiped from Life's pages In her are eyes of seers which never saw Glories of men which never shone Love from souls not expressed I saw breadwinners who never had a piece of bread Destiny helpers who helplessly crashed Into hell, where help is fruitless After my good man gone soon A friend just died too I needn't know many who died undue The treasure lost through these two Is a loss not only to my heart, but likewise the earth For every withdrawal of a soul from World's bank Is a loss, enriching the Graveyard |
