You said Facebook, didn’t you?
The social media giant’s dorm room origins may be the most familiar of college startup stories, but it’s hardly the only one. In fact, entrepreneurship on college campuses is booming, thanks to confluence of factors, including the economy, technological advances, and even the popularity of the Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship program and other entrepreneurship support organisations.
Most of these individuals listed below encountered different challenges during their journey but they did not give up on their dream. As college students wishing to pursue their dream, always keep faith and never give up!

WordPress, Matt Mullenweg
In 2003, the undergrad student of Houston University teamed up with Mike Little and Michel Valdrigh to create this awesome Content Management System.
Little did they suspect that their publishing platform would one day run 20% of the web, bringing forth 41.7 million new posts each month. Today, the platform hosts more than 130,000 websites out of the top 1 million websites.

Dell, Michael Dell

The undergrad student of Texas University created Dell in 1984. After struggling at first, he received a $300,000 investment from his family and decided to drop out of college. Now Dell is the #1 shipper of PC monitors in the world and is the sixth largest company in Texas by total revenue.

Google, Larry Page and Sergey Brin

They were both graduates of Stanford University and founders of Google in 1998. They had a hard time juggling between their start-up and their studies and even opted to sell it to Excite for $1 million. Fortunately, Excite declined the offer. The rest is history.

The Onion
When two juniors at the University of Wisconsin started producing a free paper in their dorm, they couldn’t even dream about their future success. Tim Keck had secured a loan from his mom, and his partner Chris Johnson probably considered similar means of financing. It didn’t come to that as the sales to their colleagues went through the roof. The Onion quickly gained a following on campus and beyond.Within a few years, the paper was wildly popular in the Midwest, bringing in a $1 million a year in ad sales.
