In what appears to be a confirmation of Pointblanknews.com exclusive report about security concerns in Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the removal of the GOC’s of all the Nigerian Army divisions and the Brigade of Guard commanders with immediate effect.

This is even as Pointblanknews.com gathered from a top United States diplomat that the United States has started monitoring security situation in Nigeria ahead of the 2011 general elections.

President had few weeks ago relieved all the service chiefs of their appointments and replaced the director general of the state security services and the inspector general of police.

Pointblanknews.com had exclusively reported secret moves capable of jeopardizing the Nigeria’s democracy by some Northern elements few hours after President Goodluck declared his interest in contesting the 2011 Presidential election.

The move as reported by pointblanknews.com according to highly placed sources, in the event of a crisis, the North plan to take full advantage of its population in the Military and take over. The source had said “they would also take advantage of the fact that the new Army chief, General Onyeabo Azubuike Ihejirika is yet to ‘settle’ down, coupled with the fact that some key officers are still loyal to the sacked Army chief, Gen Abdulrahman Dambazzau.”

But in a move aimed checkmating such plans couple with latest unfavorable security reports obtained while the president was attending the United Nations General Assembly, President Jonathan relieved the GOC’s of their positions.

The sacked GOC’s includes: Major General KA Role, 1st Division , headquartered in Kaduna in the north-west, Major General Lawrence Ngubane, 2nd Division (HQ Ibadan in the South-West, includes 32 Artillery Brigade at Abeokuta ), Major General Saleh Maina, 3rd Armored Division (HQ Rukuba Cantonment, Jos in the North-East, and including 21 Armored Brigade Maiduguri , 23 Brigade Yola , and 33 Artillery Brigades. Major General Eugene Nwanjuma 81st Division (Amphibious) HQ in Lagos, which includes the 9th Brigade, based at the Ikeja compound in Lagos.

Also sacked is Major General MD Isah, 82nd Division (Airborne and Amphibious) HQ in Enugu in the South-East, which includes the 2 Brigade at Port Harcourt, 13 Brigade at Calabar and the 34 Artillery Brigade at Obinze / Owerri . The Composite Division at Enugu was formed in 1964 as 4th Infantry Division, in 1975 became Lagos Garrison Organization; in 1981 became 4th Composite Division; became a Composite Division in May 2002.

Meanwhile, United States Secretary of States, Hilary Clinton met with President Goodluck Jonathan behind closed doors for almost 40 minutes in New York. Although details of the meeting was not made known to reporters but a source who accompanied Mrs. Clinton to the closed door meeting told pointblanknews.com that the discussions centered on the 2011 elections in Nigeria.

The source who would not want to be named confirmed that issues bothering on Nigeria’s internal security was also part of the discussion.

“Madam Secretary had a very important discussion with the President of Nigeria and you know elections in that country is near and the United States is interested in Nigeria’s security mostly because of the very important role it plays in Africa,” the source told Pointblanknews.com.

The source added, “U.S is monitoring events in Nigeria as the elections approaches and information already received are not too healthy.”

Presidential spokesman, Ima Niboro who confirmed the sacking of the GOC’s said the decision was in line with the desire of the president to properly reposition the Army in line with federal character. SOURCE POINTBLANKS.COM

The north have consciously made sure that our men are reduced in the military so they can manipulate the affairs of the nation. The north have been enjoying this military advantage over the south. This is one of such imbalances they are fighting to maintain.

Our military boys have been fighting against imbalance in our polity from the 60's.

The Nzeogwus, the Orkas.

Vote Goodluck Jonathan, the remedy, the solution.

Well, the "sack" in the context of the article comes accross as retirement for a lot of them and not necessarily a mere "reshufflement" as you see it.

well I just saw this , and maybe , just maybe you are right that its just a routine reshufflement:

The seeming ongoing country’s’ security re-organisation which started two weeks ago by President Goodluck Jonathan, on Friday took a new twist as the Nigerian Army carried out a posting exercise, which resulted in the redeployment of some of its major senior officers. The posting as contained in a statement issued by the Director, Army Public Relations Chris Olukolade, revealed that the reshuffle brings J.O Shoboiki, a Major General to become the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, M.D Abubakar, a Brigadier General move to GOC 2 Division, S.O Idoko, a Major General to GOC 3 Division, K.T.J Minimah, a Brigadier General to GOC 81 Division, SY Bello, a Major General to GOC 82 Division, M.A Nasamu, a Brigadier General move to Commander Army Headquarters Garrison and E.J Atewe, a Colonel is now the Commander Brigade of Guards.Similarly, C.O Onwuamaegbu, a Major General is now commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy as the former Academy’s helmsman M.A Yerima, a Major General move to the Defence Headquarters as Chief of Training and Operations. C.O Omoregie, a Major General is also now the new Commander of the Joint Task Force. The Army Headquarters also have new principal staff officers, which includes O Akinyemi, a Major General as the Chief of Policy and Plans, L.P Ngubane, a Major General is now the Chief of Training and Operations, B.S Usara, a Major General takes over as the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, B.C Azunrunwa, a Major General as the Chief of Logistics, A.B Maitama, a Major General assume the duty of the Chief of Administration.Mr Olukolade states that other positions affected by the posting, are a few staff appointments at the Defence and Army Headquarters. The Army however, states that the posting were carried out as step to cater for “deployments in the force following recent retirements and appointments in the Nigerian Army. Affected officers are expected to resume at their new posts immediately.”Earlier in the month, a statement by Ima Niboro, the president’s spokesman, announced the sack of the country’s service chiefs inherited from the Yar’Adua administration and named the newly appointed service chiefs as Oluseyi Petinrin, an Air Marshal who becomes the chief of defence staff; Onyeabo A. Ihejirika, a Major General, is chief of army staff; O.S Ibrahim, a Rear Admiral, is chief of naval staff; and Mohammed Dikko Umar, an Air Vice-Marshal, steps in as chief of air staff. Mr Ihejirika is the first Igbo to head the Army since the end of the civil war. Also, the former inspector general of police, Ogbonna Onovo was replaced by Hafiz A. Ringim who will be acting in that capacity while Ita Ekpeyong replaces A.A Gadzama as the new director general of the State Security Services (SSS).

routine- as thats what he should do.

The military under Obj 1999 had a urhobo COAS, an Ijaw COAS, igbo Minister of defense and other middle belters

the same with Yaradua and other northerners he retired every southerner and appointed northerners.

It has been like since independence.

The last line of the article should answer your queries, not NLer's. NL really isn't part of govt, so any accusations about politicisation of the army needs to be directed at govt for direct replies, we can only debate here. As said earlier, the answer to your query is below.

Presidential spokesman, Ima Niboro who confirmed the sacking of the GOC’s said the decision was in line with the desire of the president to properly reposition the Army in line with federal character.

The moment federal character is broken, the army becomes a political/tribal tool. The govt is changing that.

You still dey learn politics that na why u no sabi wetin dey.

Arewa or whatever you wanna call anybody can not do anything. Jonathan is President and will remain so untill May 29th 2011. The next President post May 29th will be determined in the next election.

Even if Jonathan were to be President for one month, he can reconstitute the Military apparatus as he deems it fit and it should purely be seen from the terms that that is how he wants to guarantee the security of all Nigerians.

If you want to go gaga suggesting that a normal reshuffling of security apparatus by a President who has the constitutional right to alter his security apparatus by Presidential fiat and you want to suggest that this has something to do with politics or some Maccavelian tactics against some Nigerians or some kind of expression of political clout and yet you are a Goodluck Jonathan ssupporter and you think posting this sort of views on the internet helps the stability of his Government? I say you still have a lot to learn about politics?

A MEMO TO ALL PROGRESSIVE NIGERIANS

THE AG. PRESIDENT DR. GOODLUCK JONATHAN LIED IN ASSET DECLARATION By Timi Ogiri Ebitare
advertisement

This memo seeks to achieve three objectives. First is to demonstrate that most public office holders in Nigeria commit perjury-that is lying under oath. Secondly, the article aims to show that the Acting President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan also lied in declaring his assets, which in the laws governing the Code of Conduct, is a punishable offence. Thirdly, the write-up intends to mention some of the undeclared assets of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan- a fact known by many Nigerians but , which have been downplayed because of his humility.

Dear progressive Nigerians, when the duo of ailing Umaru Musa Yar’Adua took office on May 29, 2007, as President and Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, respectively, they swore to uphold the constitution and rule of law. Accordingly, President Yar’Adua demonstrated that resolve by the public declaration of his assets and liabilities. This was quite unlike that of the Acting President Dr. Goodluck, Jonathan who was pressured by public opinion and the media to declare his assets in a manner calculated to deceive Nigerians and well-orchestrated to hide the truth from Nigerians.

Not long after the Acting President declared his assets, some media organizations condemned the way and manner the exercise was carried out. The first signs of deceit emerged on Saturday, August 11, 2007 when some overzealous operatives of the State Security Service (SSS). SSS officers, obviously acting on the orders of the Dr Jonathan launched a vicious attack on Spynet magazine and tore through lockers, files and computers belonging to the media outfit. It was an irony that Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who the media made from the shadows of his erstwhile boss, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha, could be part of a plot to antagonize the press. But that was not his first attempt censoring the press. As Governor, he launched a major assault against Izon Link, a local tabloid which was supposedly sponsored by Timi Alaibe. “This assault on press was perceived to be an attempt by the Acting President to cover the truth”, the Spynet reported. Those harassed at SPYNET include Richard Ogbage, Godsidi, Frank and others. These people are still alive to testify.

It should be noted that in the maiden edition of the Spynet Magazine the lead story titled; “The Face of a Fraud?”, “detailed how the Acting President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, former Bayelsa State Governor, mismanaged the State as Chief Executive. The story however did not go down well with Jonathan and his Committee of Friends especially Chief A.J.Turner. What followed was a well-planned invasion of the magazine and the unlawful arrest of the staffers of the media outfit. Although the mater is now in court, Spynet are still counting their loses. This action portrayed him as  an enemy of the mass media

The second event that prompted the investigation of the assets of the Acting President was the October 21 st edition of The Sunday Sun, where one Mr. Collins Eselemo – Grand Patron of the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) and President General of the Coastal Mandate – a coalition of socio-cultural groups in the Niger Delta Region raised some issues questioning the integrity of the Acting President. The Coalition leader claimed that “the Acting President lied in his declaration of assets and threatened that he would incur the wrath of the Ijaw Youth Council if he does not open up”
. Prince Eselemo also threatened to provide a comprehensive list of the property of the Acting President and to prepare a show down with him. Ijaw Leaders prevailed on him not to wash the dirty linen of their kinsmen.

Dear Progressive Nigerians, asset declaration for a highly placed person like the Acting President is like swearing an affidavit and if the process is falsified, it can be likened to perjury – which is a criminal offence. From the perspective of the constitution as per section 172 of the 1999 constitution” A person in the public service of the Federation shall observe and conform to the code of conduct” Further, Section 140 (1) states that “A person elected to the office of President (including the Acting President) shall not begin to perform the functions of that office until he has declared his assets and liabilities as prescribed in this constitution and he has taken and subscribed to the oath of allegiance and the oath of office prescribed in the seventh schedule of this constitution”. Further, asset declaration is not just an indispensable ritual but a mechanism for sanctioning public office holders who acquire wealth through fraudulent means while in office. Since public servants spend public money, asset declaration is more of a moral responsibility than a constitutional obligation.

In another bizarre twist, when Chief Timipre Sylva assumed office as Governor of Bayelsa State, there were wide spread speculations that the Bayelsa State was heavily indebted. Although Governor Sylva in a press briefing cleared the air by saying that his predecessor did not leave behind any debts, there are now discordant reports to that effect. Such indications emerged clearly at a recently concluded Budget Retreat organized by the Government of Bayelsa State where the Commissioner of Finance & Budget stated in unambiguous terms that the State has been reeling under a debt of more than N28 billion. If this assertion is true the question then arises: Was the debt inherited from the Goodluck Jonathan administration? Certainly yes, but Sylva was too loyal to expose his predecessor. Is that revelation so grievous as to prompt the harassment of the Timipre Sylva administration? Is that what should prompt the spurious allegations that Governor Sylva voted N500million to stop Jonathan from becoming Acting President? My Dear Progressive Nigerians would certainly decode the political undercurrent behind the action of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

As a man who could vouch for the integrity of Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, I regarded his critics as detractors, who envied his rising political profile. I therefore took on the challenge of conducting an independent investigation. Sadly, however, the investigating  showed that Dr. Jonathan could not really stand on a moral high ground to uphold the rule of law or the Constitution for that matter.

The results of our investigations are startling but some of them are still inconclusive because the investigator could not have access to certain vital documents. The Acting President Dr. Goodluck Jonathan has much more property and assets that were not declared. Our informant who preferred anonymity said that the most annoying project that served as a drainpipe in the Jonathan administration was the Gas Turbine project awarded to an indigenous company owned by an Ogbia Woman. The initial contract value was N4 billion Naira but the sum was later reviewed upwards to N8 billion. Two things were wrong with the contract. First, the award did not follow Due Process. Secondly, rather than buy new turbines, the contractor merely refurbished the broken parts of the old turbine. Experts estimated that not up to N1 billion was spent while the other N7billion went into the pockets of the two parties.

Again, one Moses Otazi who served as Dr. Goodluck’s Chief of Staff is believed to have stolen about N150 million from Government House and hid the money at Ewoi his wife’s village. It was reported that thieves broke into the house and made away with the money. A young man from Otuoke who works with the Ministry of Health confirmed the incident and said some of the suspects were even arrested, but when the incident got to the ears of the Acting President, he promptly intervened and ordered that the matter be settled at the Village level rather than give him negative publicity. Our chat with an operative of the SSS at Yenagoa yielded no tangible results as the plain clothed officer was evasive and not prepared to mention details. He however confirmed that such an incident was reported. The said Otazi is believed to be one of the principal beneficiaries of the loots in Creek Haven during the Jonathan administration. Because of the unscrupulous manner Moses Otazi handled the matter, the Acting President refused to take him along to Abuja.

The Jonathan administration also huge sums of money for non-existent rice farms. One of such farms is said to have been at Elebele estimated at N300 million. Beyond that the Acting President owns three multi-million Naira hotels. One of them is adjacent to Chief. DSP Alamieyeseigha’s residence in Yenagoa. Another gigantic hotel owned by the Acting President is situated after Commissioner’s quarters along Elebele Road near AIT office in Yenagoa. There are unconfirmed reports too that the Acting President owns a building estimated at N1 billion at Victoria Island, Lagos. The aforementioned property were not declared to the Code of Conduct Bureau as Assets owned by the man. This is in addition to the massive Otueke Hotel owned by Dame Patience Jonathan.

Dear progressive Nigerians, it is also a true that the Acting President has demonstrated some quotient of leadership, humility and as a loyal party man. I particularly envy his humility and consider it an advantage that is likely to boost his political profile even before he became Acting President. But it does appear that the Acting President humility to cover-up skeletons in his cupboard. If all these choice property are owned by Dr. Goodluck Jonathan - the Acting President of Nigeria, then he was more than N30 billion Naira richer than he had earlier declared. I do not intend to begrudge his wealth because his humble  disposition.

Dear, progressive Nigerians, I acknowledge the fact that the Acting - President wears the veil of immunity, such allegations if not clarified with cast doubts as to government’s intention to wage a total war against corruption. This is one of the reasons crusade against corruption and the drive to entrench transparency and accountability is very difficult. The battle has to start from the Presidency down to the Local Government Chairmen.

People at the top echelon of power and authority must tell Nigerians the truth so we can collectively pursue the rule of law and entrench sustainable justice in the land. Dear progressive Nigerians, the aim of this article would have been achieved if the Acting President declares his assets now and compel all the new Ministers to do so. The Acting President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria should ensure that he who must come to equity must come with clean hands.

I expect more of such bold moves from Jonathan. Time to grow some balls and recapture people like me who were losing patience in his lack of courage.

Now, he must also make his manifesto readily available to anyone who is interested and take his campaign to the grass roots. National dailies or the internet could be used for that purpose.

In my opinion, he is the one eyed man in the land of the blind. The presidency is his to lose, but he must show some grit, sincerity and leadership qualities.

I like this post.

I hope that the changes reach deep down as the brigade commanders bed in, because the army has always been lopsided and previous leader has had the guts to fix it. The army must never be seen as a tool of intimidation by sections of the country; rather, it should be seen as a protector and defender of the Nigerian citizen and state from external aggression.

Jonathans style is just different, because he doesn't speak much and is a gentleman; that really isn't weakness as he's shown over and over. It is a strength rather, because his moves always cause suprise and unbalance his opponents. A man without grit would have baulked at the vicious opposition he is against.
Lets give a good man some support, so that the direction of the country can change once and for all for the good of all.

I dont feel too comfortable with the posting.

If you look at yar adua posting , he went one south, one north above the river, just for loyality reason.

Now Jonathan is going north north, south south. That is not good. if the northern military boys shoot thier GOC in Kaduna and Jos. And if the two northerners in the south agree with it.   You have a military coup and the civilain govt are  out of power.

Jonathan is better off moving J.O Shoboiki, to division 81  lagos and Minimah to kaduna,  that way, if there is a coup, since shoboiki is yorubas, he would have enough officers to support for counter coup. If Shoboiki over power Ibadan from lagos. It makes it two unit. Remain 3 to restore civillian govt. Because enugu is an igbo area, it would easy for shoboiki to take over. shoboiki can supply Onyeabo A. Ihejirika in abuja officers for counter coup. and attempt to take over enugu. Given him 3 unit to success.

@oyb, bawomolo

That is not a pointblanknews stance. Someone chose to petition pointblanknews instead of the EFcc. Are you not surprised that he could not even mention the name of a single hotel?

The seeming ongoing country’s security re-organisation which started two weeks ago by President Goodluck Jonathan, on Friday took a new twist as the Nigerian Army carried out a posting exercise, which resulted in the redeployment of some of its major senior officers.

The posting as contained in a statement issued by the Director, Army Public Relations Chris Olukolade, revealed that the reshuffle brings J.O Shoboiki, a Major General to become the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division, M.D Abubakar, a Brigadier General move to GOC 2 Division, S.O Idoko, a Major General to GOC 3 Division, K.T.J Minimah, a Brigadier General to GOC 81 Division, SY Bello, a Major General to GOC 82 Division, M.A Nasamu, a Brigadier General move to Commander Army Headquarters Garrison and E.J Atewe, a Colonel is now the Commander Brigade of Guards.

Similarly, C.O Onwuamaegbu, a Major General is now commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy as the former Academy’s helmsman M.A Yerima, a Major General moves to the Defence Headquarters as Chief of Training and Operations. C.O Omoregie, a Major General is also now the new Commander of the Joint Task Force.

The Army Headquarters will also have new principal staff officers, who include O Akinyemi, a Major General as the Chief of Policy and Plans. L.P Ngubane, a Major General is now the Chief of Training and Operations, B.S Usara, a Major General takes over as the Chief of Army Standards and Evaluation, B.C Azunrunwa, a Major General as the Chief of Logistics, A.B Maitama, a Major General assumes the duty of the Chief of Administration.

Mr Olukolade states that other positions affected by the posting, are a few staff appointments at the Defence and Army Headquarters.

The Army however, states that the postings were carried out as step to cater for “deployments in the force following recent retirements and appointments in the Nigerian Army. Affected officers are expected to resume at their new posts immediately.”

Earlier in the month, a statement by Ima Niboro, the president’s spokesman, announced the sack of the country’s service chiefs inherited from the Yar’Adua administration and named the newly appointed service chiefs as Oluseyi Petinrin, an Air Marshal who becomes the chief of defence staff; Onyeabo A.
