The quest by the member representing Chanchanga Federal Constituency of Niger State, Honourable Umaru Mohammed Bago, to emerge as the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives has got a boost as over 156 members-elect are said to have declared support for him.

Bago, who is contesting against the choice of their party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Femi Gbajabiamila, was said to have got the endorsement of the members-elect at a meeting held at a location in Gwarimpa, Abuja, early on Saturday, where they were said to have decided to vote for him during the election.READ MORE STORY HERE

It will only lead to a bad outcome for the electorate. The party will learn to compromise candidates seeking election into NASS by making them sign ahead to abide by the party choice of Senate President and House Speaker. Those who have problems with it will be dropped. Those who agree to it and won election bu t fail to toe the line will be charged for anti-party activism. There is no democratic society anywhere in the world that the assembly acts independent of party rules or refuses to align with party discipline.

You guys are doing to these members same thing you all did to Onnoghen....you will give them false backing to think they are safe and can misbehave and get away with it....but when the misbehavior runs out of gas you will have no further assist to rescue them.

The members are better off respecting the party choice now than be faced with need to sign an undertaking in future elections.

Leaders of industry will tell you self regulation is better than mandated regulation.
